I think the factory fat five spokes off of the C216 CL63 would look amazing on the CL600, provided said wheels are in a dark metallic grey or metallic black finish.

Cosmetically I think I'm going to do lowering links next on the CL. I'd like to drop it just a little to get rid of the gap. Plus lowering links are cheap and easy to install....so no good reason not to get a better stance.

Any exhaust plans? X-Force Varex mufflers would be great on this. Only as loud as you want them.

In reply to G_Body_Man:

For the CL...catless downpipes are on the list, then ditching the four stock mufflers for a couple of Borlas probably. I had not heard of the x-force so will look into them.

The s600 has the converters and no mufflers and sounds great, but I think the CL would be too loud with no mufflers and catless DPs.

Removing the cats don't cause a cel? Or can that be circumvented via STAR?

In reply to yupididit:

It does, but eurocharged said they could modify the tune to take care of the CEL. They don't charge for retunes like that, which is nice.

Also, can you email me a vid of how that s600 sounds? Go ahead and sell me on a fly and drive for that car

Here's their site. They're basically a "dual-mode" exhaust for any car.

Cl600 update:

I'm 3 weeks and 1k miles into commuting in the cl600 and it hasn't skipped a beat. Just a great car to drive. My last tankful was 18.3 mpg and there was some spirited driving mixed in with that, so I could see it going up further. The car is extremely smooth at triple digit speeds as well.

The post tune dyno is still scheduled for the 18th, so I will post the results. It's still on the stock exhaust, but I'd like to remedy that very soon if I have time.

S600 update: I'm getting some oil smoke. I really think it is a turbo seal, but I need to diagnose it further before going to all the trouble of pulling a turbo. I'm still messing with the 914, but as soon as it's off the lift I will pull the s600 in. These v12 Mercedes use a pair of k24s, so if I do need to rebuild a turbo it should be pretty straight forward. To get to it I will drop the subframe and pull it from the bottom.

That's all the updates I have for my little 12 cylinder monsters.... more to come as things progress.

Also, after spending some time in these cars I'm totally sold....the ultimate goal now is a tuned w216 CL 65.....now if I can find one with some needs that is priced right! I'm in no hurry, since the CL is doing a great job, but if one comes up I plan to pounce.

A very nice w220 S65 just sold in the low twenties. I've seen some w215 mid to high twenties. The w216 still in the 40s.

In reply to yupididit:

Yeah, for the most part that's what I'm seeing too. I did see this one for close to 30, but I really do not like that interior.....at all.

W216 cl65

Plus, honestly I want one broken, so I can get it cheaper. I would like to be very sub 20k. I did find a nice w216 CL600 with a salvage history for 19k asking, but this time I really want to go with the CL 65.....preferably a w216, but for the right price I would absolutely go with another w215 or even a w220 s65. Unfortunately, neglected CL 65s and s65s seem to be very hard to come by.

I just can't do light interior. The rear of the 216 is ugly to me.

I think an SL65 would be an appropriate upgrade for ya

In reply to yupididit:

It's funny you mention an sl65. The guy in FL I bought my cl600 has a 2007 sl65, but it's in much much better shape than the CL I bought off him. I still keep in touch with him and he mentioned selling the sl65, but it's in great shape, so he wants market value for it. I do like the SLs, but out of the trio they seem to hold their value the best. However, I search for them too, so you never know.

Are we still on for the CL600 dyno tomorrow?

Cotton

oh yeah man. Unless it blows up on the way there it is definitely going back on the roller tomorrow. It's been my DD for I guess the past month now, so I'm not even going to tow it this time.....hope it doesn't break on me!

Post baseline mods and "fixes":

-Eurocharged ECU tune

-right bank coil pack and plugs to fix misfire.

-K&N drop in filters

-New upper coolant hose to fix the leak that developed during the last dyno session.

-newer style Bosch intercooler pump to replace bad original. Also filled and bled intercooler fluid.

I'm still on the stock exhaust, so there will be another dyno session if I do catless downpipes and aftermarket mufflers.

Did you use the bosch 010 pump?

Don't forget to ask them to show rpm!

yep, went with the Bosch 010. I think it was a little over $100 off amazon. At some point I may add a killer chiller or something like that. Keeping these things cool is key to keeping them happy and making consistent power I think.

So real quick and dirty update:

440hp/540tq.

Obviously those numbers are lower than expected, and the tq is lower than the baseline, but long story short it looks like my baseline was jacked. Basically the car kept downshifting from 4th to 3rd immediately during the baseline runs, which I guess the shock right off the bat threw the numbers off. Anyway, for this session I reached out to eurocharged to get some tips on keeping the car from shifting out of 4th. Their suggestions worked and the results are above.

So since my baseline was basically meaningless what's next? Well I can load the stock tune back in a matter of minutes, so I'm not ruling out going back one day and running stock, then tuned to get the real difference.

Also, the numbers above seem low for a tuned 600, so even though it feels great, I think some data logging is in order to make sure every thing is 100%.

Next modifications? DIY cold air intake, catless downpipes, and aftermarket mufflers. Then back to the dyno!

Basically stay off the button under the accelerator pedal, start at 2500 rpm instead of 2k, and gently roll into it. I honestly thought I was gently rolling in before, but I guess not.
