You’ve heard of blowing the doors off of your competition, but have you ever driven so fast that you’ve blown your own doors off?
I guess that’s what happens when you turn a Fiat 500 Abarth into a 500-horsepower time attack race car.

(FYI: The door comes off at around the 8:30 mark)

Initially I had a lot of interest in time attack events, thinking that maybe I could participate. After looking closer, it appeared that most (all?) of the cars are produced by shops, used as advertising/tax write offs. Building one as a private party would likely run $$,$$$, if not another "$." With that, any thoughts of entering evaporated.

GTA (global time attack) and #GRIDLIFE are much more grassroots oriented. Don't let yourself get put off by the corporate teams.
I think both SCCA and NASA have a series as well.
I would love something like this, minus the door ejection feature
To be fair, the passenger door was seen fluttering quite a bit as well. He might have lost both of them for a true open-air motoring experience.

SCCA TT/TTnats, NASA TT, Gridlife TA, various hill climb orgs, etc have tons of very "normal" cars and classes they slot in - they just don't make as good YouTubes so they might be not as visible, but we have as much fun driving.

Those weird fenders look very familiar. When I had my Abarth, someone had made some kind of one-off super fast version, it was white, and had those slotted fenders. I wonder if I can find the info.
How about both doors at 200 MPH
Is there a link to this car's build?
