In theory, all you need to make a functioning engine is fuel, air and spark.
So, maybe it shouldn't be much of a surprise that an old air conditioning compressor from a car can be turned into a working three-cylinder engine with a few modifications.

I've been a massive fan of "Lets Learn Something" since I found them a few months ago; there's a different episode where they show off their literal PILE of carburetors and all the wacky workarounds they have to different problems. Modifying a broken air compressor into a V-twin, OHC 2 stroke is also up there in crazy. Can't wait to see what they come up with when they get some capital.
Lets see some dyno numbers!
Impressive knowledge shown in that video.
Now to turn a working car engine into a MASSIVE REFRIGERATOR.
Well I learned a lot about air compressors, I was only vaguely aware that there was some reciprocating compressor mechanism in there.
Holy crap that was way more work than I anticipated. I'd have given up & bought a predator long before I got that running.
Super cool. Thanks for sharing that, Colin.
Old school aircraft mechanics that were sent to remote locations often had a written set of instructions on how to convert a flathead Ford V8 into a functioning 4 cylinder air compressor. (4 cylinder gas engine)
i have never found a copy, but imagine it would make good reading, in a gear head sort of way.
make do with what ya got.
Huge work, but think of the amazing pit bike you would have with this powering it!
Super impressive. That is a master fabricator at work. Now THAT is the guy you would want on a DIY turbo build.
