so, lately I've been obsessing about building a superlight, open wheeled, roadster. as a track/street toy. this was all started by a speedway motors catalog that had a track-t on the cover. then, a few threads on boat tail speedsters, and a couple of locost build threads, and......
anyway, I've been really, really thinking about this hard lately. especially since its getting to be winter, and my creative juices get flowing about this time of year.
unfortunately, I'm having difficulty finding just the right style to go for. these links kinda show what I'm shooting for. I haven't been able to find many two seaters that do it for me other than the auburn boattail speedster that I like, and I sure aint doing an auburn. I would prefer to either do a wide single seater, or a two seater (so I can have instructors/daughter along for the ride).

car in my head is outlined as such (but completely open to change, as I haven't bought any parts, but have some laying around that would make things much cheaper). circle track front suspension (a arm upper, strut rod style lower, coil overs, splined sway bars). solid rear axle (have explorer 8.8, chevy s10 2wd both on hand) with unknown suspension (would love to do an offset three link, but don’t think there will be the chassis space, so probably a short triangulated 4 link). WIDE tires (295/50/15ish, or 335/35/18ish. you get the idea). front disc, rear drum (both axles already have them). id like stupid fast ratio steering (12:1 or less numerically) which will probably necessitate rack and pinion and some sort of power assist. sub 2k lb fighting weight with driver and fuel. late model drivetrain (either neon DOHC motor converted to rear drive, or GM 60*v6 (already have)) with lakes style header(s). must be automatic due to my knee, so I would love to explore paddle shifters. either engine will remain injected, probably with ITB's poking through the side/hood. must also be streetable (headlights, turn signals, brake lights, windshield) but removable for race day and weight. ill be driving it to and from events. also, planned budget it under 2k, so I can compete in the GRM challenge with it. lastly, id like it to be able to pass tech for scca/etc so I can actually run it somewhere other than the pro-touring events and street.
so, I'm asking for assistance with finding the right body/blueprints to work off of. it does not have to be production, as I'm not opposed to starting with wood bucks and laying up fiberglass body components. actually, that idea kind of appeals to me, as I've always wanted to try my hand at it. also, canvas and subframe like ww1 air planes would not be out of the question.
I guess, if y'all could assist me with finding the right designs, etc, that would be greatly appreciated. you can also call me stupid for even thinking about it. if I build it, I WILL drive it to florida from NC and compete with it at the GRM challenge. may not be able to walk for a week afterwards, but it would be a glorious trip.
