vinyl wrap... a dashboard?

I had a crazy thought.

Couldn't we vinyl wrap a dashboard after repairing cracks?

funny, I just was out in the garage a few minutes ago and stopped to stare at my awful dash on the e30, lol.

I have some HUGE cracks. For a stopgap I just took some black silicone and used my finger to fill the cracks and smooth them over the top. Now that the cracks are smooth, I'm looking for something to put over it for cosmetics.

I saw some guy on one of the e30 forums who bought some product that is basically like thick paint/glue stuff that you mix these tiny cloth bits or something with and then roll it on. Comes out looking like a textured cloth dash or something, looked really good.

I might just get a little arts and crafts brush and paint a bunch of false cracks all over mine....

Oh wait... it was a '66 VW Bus in the good ol' peace, love, and granola days. Might look different in an E30.

Yeah, we have a great thread on flocking already. I'm looking for alternatives. Something more OEM in look.

I've seen truck bed lining done with excellent results(professional, not DIY, but the concept is good)

If you're talking vinyl wrap like the printed stuff they wrap the outside of the car with, it will never stick to the dash. Unless the dash is sheet metal or aluminum. But then this wouldn't be an issue.

I seem to see uncracked dashes for sale on the forums all the time for $100-150. I would pick one up myself, but I really just don't want to pull everything apart, honestly. If one pops up close to you, would be worth it. Shipping is what kills.

That was my approach too. If you dont have it handy, don't go out of your way.
