The usuals have stuck around....Audis, VWs, Volvos etc. Just noticed today that BUICK is now offering a true non-crossover wagon. And it looks pretty cool, to boot. Which is funny since their SuV/Crossovers look pretty goofy. Go figure. Turbo (250hp isn't exactly mind-blowing, but it beats things like the VW allroad by a big margin). AWD, with a locking rear diff. Interesting.
Pretty impressively, it starts at about $29k....
I wouldn't say that the Audis have stuck around, you can't get Avants in the US anymore, just jacked-up Allroads with cladding. But yeah, the Regal TourX is pretty cool, though I do wish you could get the Regal GS motor in it.
Don't call it a comeback. They've been here for years.

I wouldn't count on the Regal. Both the sedan and wagon show up on the website as 2018 models but not for 2019.

I haven't heard anything about them being killed off, so I assume they just haven't updated the website yet.

One thing I read is that they planned to ditch the 8-speed Aisin in 2019 and use a 9-speed GM transmission that was better-suited for the car. Wonder if they killed it already. I didn't even know it even existed, and in this area there's always SOMEONE who buys "the new thing"....
Does Fords new off road Focus count? I’m curious to see if it’s AWD and how they market it. Weird times
Damn. That’s not bad looking.
Buick's on a tear... who would have thought.

When I read the thread title I was thinking you were talking about wagons like the forester xt that I just bought or the outback but I have been in love with the shape of that buick wagon since they first came out. Love me some wagons.
I do like the regal wagons and the wife would have considered them if they came in manual which is why we ended up pretty much the only manual turbo AWD wagon on the market today.
This is with some cheap General Grabbers w/wheels I found on Craigslist.
Supposedly for 2019 they are getting about 25 more HP.

My ex- just bought an almost identical car. Hers has the brown interior.
Definitely looks nice. She didn't want AWD, but it was the only way to get a manual transmission and the other options she wanted.

AWD, with a locking rear diff. Interesting.
I sort of doubt it has a locking diff in the way we would assume. Generally older AWD gms have a rear diff with a wet clutch on each side so if you engage both clutches at the same time it's a 'locked axle' but i doubt that happens very often, and i dont think it's ever been user-selectable. What did you see about the locking diff?

This car is a rebadged Opel. GM sold Opel in the last year. Maybe that's got something to do with it?
I'm enjoying my new VW wagon. I got a rare bird really. It's the sportwagen 4 motion. Not the Alltrak version. It was sitting around for a while as I bought it new this month and it was built 7/17. I can't complain though. I didn't want fake leather and didn't need the huge sunroof so I figure there are really not too much to break. Still got the 6 year warranty.
Name another AWD turbo car that you can get for under $20K out the door right now. I couldn't find anything for under 30K. I'll take the good mileage with me driving about 100 miles 2-3 times a week.

This thread has made me aware of the existence of those VWs. Seems pretty cool!
I have one of the old standards; 2011 Outback, my drive to ghost towns and various petroglyph sites, I wanted something that could still be hustled on a curvy and didn't suck to drive. A mid-size 4 door truck is what I should have but I hate drive them because, well they drive like a truck.
I do have to say that Buick does look good.
I should have bought a wagon a long time ago.
My Grand Cherokee looks a lot like a Volvo 740 on stilts. Does that count?

I picked up a '17 4motion non alltrak in May. The 4motion will not be available in the sportwagen family at the end of the year. The Golf will be FWD, and the AllTrak will be the 4WD version. we just rolled 6000 miles, and still LOVE it.

So I know there's this thing with a lot of gearheads about wagons but can someone explain the inside joke to me? I have a minivan and I love how spacious it is, especially compared to all the car cockpit interiors, and it's also tall enough to walk around in while crouched, including all the way to the rear hatch. There's no benefit like this to wagons though. They're roomy but only back behind your head. And surely due to the style of making the greenhouse narrow you can't even haul all that much above the beltline. What gives?

They trade some cargo capability for improved dynamics. And they offer quite a bit more cargo capability and functionality than the sedans that they're typically based on.

It's a bit of both. I have both a minivan and a wagon. As much as I love my minivan and the space it affords (along with the higher seating position for modern traffic), I do like the better driving dynamics of a car and the better fuel mileage. I'm on my second minivan and have owned three wagons along with a full size van and a number pick ups in various sizes.
It'll be interesting when I finally get my TDi wagon back on the road and can really do a more day-to-day comparison between the two, with the caveat of my 2017 minivan having 14 years of improvements vs. my 2003 wagon. I'm about ready to say "F-it" and trailer the car across NJ to probably the only shop I would trust to work on my TDi other than myself.
