Spring is here. Let’s race.
We’re running our Golf GTI on Sunday, April 21, with our local Porsche Club of America in Tavares, Florida. German Excellence supports the series.
Wait, you say, a VW isn’t a Porsche.
True, but the group offers a Fun class for other makes.
Regis…

And I realize this is a bit of a last-minute notice.

I’m a member of the Space Coast region of the PCA so I regularly check their calendar.
This event is being hosted by the Orlando chapter of the PCA, hence a different calendar. I’m on their list, though, so I got the e-mail about the event.
I know at least one other GRMer will be there, too. We can hang. :)

lll be down in Venice autocrossing with Suncoast PCA and finally trying out the re71rs on the GTI. I think the May Suncoast event is on a different date from Citrus region PCA so I might do both.
Aw, man... Still in Florida!?
I am guessing this is a regular location. Makes me happy, that's only like 70 minutes from the new place, so much like me going to grissom but with some shade and real bathrooms
When are you coming back to run with Gulf Coast Autocross?

I know, it’s been a while.

It is a regular site. The Martin Sports Car club uses it, too.
In reply to David S. Wallens :
I've heard good things about them from friends as well.
In reply to bobzilla :
I enjoy running with Martin. I first ran with them in like 2002.
And here’s what the Tavares site looks like.
We autocross in the big rectangular pad and grid on the smaller rectangle beneath it. We paddock on the mini road course. One of the buildings has bathrooms. There are shady places to hang, too. Can’t go on the gun range, though, and no parking on the grass.
The site was recently repaved, and we just started running there again. It was slippery but you could gather it back up. Eager to see how it feels this weekend.
Thanks for posting this, the Citrus PCA events are always fun, and the Lake Tech lot is not just freshly paved, it's also bigger than it was. See you there!
Yes, bigger and better!
Glad I saw the e-mail. (Otherwise I’d be up in Jax this weekend.)
Sunday’s forecast for Tavares, Florida: sunny, dry, high of 91. (Earlier in the week, I believe the high was listed at like 94.)
I've never been to the site - looks nice! What is the mini road course actually used for? THAT would be a fun autocross!
In reply to aw614 :
I believe we autocrossed on the little road course once or twice way back in the day. (Or did I dream it?)
The reality is that if you go off, you hit a concrete culvert. Also, that pavement is olde.
So, yeah, we park on the mini road course.

Its used for parking
what did/does the property owner use it for? It had to have been used for something fun in its lifetime!
It’s a police training site.
Some photos here. You can see the autocross site behind the P71s.
Car’s ready, I’m covered in sunblock. Just finishing breakfast and then heading out.
Fun times yesterday with the Florida Citrus Region of the Porsche Club of America, and more to come. (I ran in the non-Porsche group.)
In reply to David S. Wallens :
I bet it was warmer than ours. Started yesterday morning it was 36* for the local autox. It did warm up to 53 by 2pm though so that helped.
