In reply to MrJoshua:

Run a 2004 5 speed Forester with a tow hitch, skid plates and an auto dim mirror with 60k miles through Edmunds.com

KBB has a more reasonable $12,799 as retail in average condition.

Hmmmmm.....

I have a 2006 Mazdaspeed6 Grand Touring for sale. It is red with black leather and has 71,000 miles. It has every option available: NAVIGATION, heated seats, AWD, CD Changer, sunroof, etc. If Mazda offered an option, this car has it. It has been modified with Custom Performance Engineering Intake and Exhaust pushing the horsepower and torque to around 350 and INCREASING fuel economy about 10-15%. I'd like to sell it in the next few weeks or it's going to Carmax. I'll take pictures tomorrow so email me if you're interested.

I do like the speed6

Deceptively fast in stock form. Drove a few when I was at carmax.

It's like "Well this thing isn't that fast. (looks at speedo) OH E36 M3 I'M DOIN' 125 AND CLIMBING!!!!"

Sneaky very sneaky car.

I liked the ms3 for the same reason, and it was fairly invisible. More than once I thought I was popped and the trooper flew past me to pull someone else over.

I tried to find a Speed6 to replace my G35x but all I could find were either beat cars or they had the most awful looking white and black leather seats.

Odd, because that interior is incredibly rare. What's really odd, is the speed6 sold like fish popsicles new, but once they hit the used market, you can't find the things.

Most people in the market for a car like the Speed6 are like us. They don't want to pay for a new car that WILL depreciate to 50% of original price in 2 years. When the 6 came out, the 626 it had replaced held value very poorly.

Spam alert, I am thinking of selling my Focus wagon, 5 speed, supercharged, new engine, Liberty-built trans, Multimatic dampers, Wilwood brakes, SVT Euro interior, NO additional gauges, no non-OEM interior or exterior modification: http://forums.focaljet.com/team-rigz/651692-old-track-wagons-never-die.htmlt

I've got seat time in the Mazda's and Subaru's and the Focus is hands down a more satisfying driver's car, the power deficit stock, even with the SVT, was the limiting factor, which is not an issue with mine. The only issue is that above 300hp the 2wd really limits things, but for a trouble-free daily driver this is not a real issue.

Does need a paint job for surface rust, but even with paint it would be much less than your budget or if I needed to revert to OEM brakes, etc, I can build it to suit. I am in SE Michigan but my brother is stationed in Jacksonville, I could probably drive it down and fly back with him depending on the schedule. While not in the market for a Focus at all, I really like that one.
