I may be imagining things, but I thought I remember someone mentioning it in a few threads.
After the thread from yesterday, I've pretty much decided on going ahead with the NC idea. Between price, feeding it, etc, it seems to make the most sense. It's modern enough to not feel super old and I won't have to be repairing stuff.
And of course, I'd much prefer to do business with a GRM'r vs the general public.

I think that might've been KYAllroad or another of the Central KY guys. I remember being tempted by it because it was too close to home.

Pretty sure it was Greg Smith, really good price though not sure if he already sold it.
which NC thread are you referring too? I have pretty much decided to "run what ya brung" this year but had considered an NC as it looks like you can buy an NC1/NC2 and have it track ready for around $12k plus a few weekends of wrenching.

The one I started yesterday wasn't NC specific, but I was asking about getting something fun again in the $10k range.........and my first thought was NC. As I had an NC1 years ago and enjoyed it as a DD.
In reply to _ :
I had an '06 GT as a DD for awhile. I finally traded it in on the BRZ because the BOSE headunit needed replaced and the soft top started leaking. These happened on back to back days, once I figured out how to much to have properly fixed by a pro (it was my only car at the time so I wasn't about to tackle the top) I didn't want to dump that much into it.
Wish I had, I would probably still have it and it'd be my track car by now.
It was/is me. I have an '06 GT in full STR trim that Racing Computers is planning to buy. But he had a tree fall on his house so we've not made anything happen (yet).
All the problems of NCs (low rev limiter and floppy suspension) are cured when you bolt MCS coilovers and I/H/E/tune to them.

Would you mind sharing the details with me in case he falls through (mods, spring rates, a few pics)? Long-term plan for any NC includes a built 2.5, so the early non-forged engine doesn't bother me as much.

M.I.A.T.A. means Miata is always the answer.

I agree. Mine has the IHE and maybe tuned. I do not think my nc is slow.

Sure, it's always fun to brag on it. I bought the Zoomboni for autocross shenanigans and the NC just isn't getting driven (I daily the Passat).
2006 Grand Touring in black with orange/brown leather seats. 74K miles and garage kept, top is original and in perfect condition. It was set up for STR by Mike "Junior" Johnson several years ago and spent the last 6 years here in central Kentucky getting autocrossed and living in a garage. It hasn't been a DD in 10 years and has zero rust anywhere, the headlights are clear and fog free.
It's a phenominal autocrosser. I ran it this past season with my son and I won the class and has some high PAX and raw finishes locally. On 245 A7's I finished 3rd raw behind an AM car (co-driven) beating out three SSM cars and a BSP S2000. My plan for this year was to run CSP but since the Zoomboni came along it just feels wrong to have the Miata spending so much time in the garage.
CCCP fabrications lightweight hard top. It's bolted on for the winter and track use but can be unbolted in 20 minutes or so. I built a stand for it that rolls around the garage when it's off.
MCS two way remote adjustable coilovers (Literally $6000 setup) Fat front bar factory rear bar. MX-5 cup front rotors ($900, the aluminum hat saves 3 lbs per corner) drilled slotted rear rotors, Hawk HPS 5.0 pads.
True CAI drawing air from in front of the radiator, header, exhaist with single exit. A bit loud but very light and cool looking. Tuned (I don't know by who and the guy who did it can't remember). Fuel cut is at 7,500 rpm. Currently rolling on 17x8 wheels and Continental tires.

Clean, but ready to go have fun with. That sounds perfect.
Again, please let me know if he falls through or decides not to. Maybe I should start looking at the SCCA forums for stuff guys have moved on from.
I did a bit of "back of the envelope" calculations and the cost of the mods is about where the asking price is. Meaning the NC and labor to install it all are free. A well modded car is really the best deal going and I feel like an ass selling the thing. But keeping a 12K car sitting in the garage and driving it a dozen times a years seems dumber.

I might be interested in selling my car. Just have too many cars right now and my new business let's me drive my stock, so I don't need a daily anymore.
2007 NC Sport - Silver with Black interior, 5 speed
Upgraded with the following:
Bilstein sport shocks and Mazdaspeed sport springs
RX8 "red dot" sway bars
Sporttec drilled rotors and performance pads
Enkei 17x9 wheels with 235/45/17 Yokahoma (with the correct offset wheels so they don't rub, fenders don't need to be rolled unless you move up to 245's)
New black Hartz cloth convertible top
Pioneer NAV system with Sirius
Excellent condition, 98,000 miles, just serviced with all fluids replaced. Had the headlights professionally polished last year, clean title.
Have not even looked at the market yet to see what it is worth, let me know if you have any interest and I can shoot you some pictures and discuss price. It is set up as they should have come from the factory. Fast, handles flat and just a ton of fun to drive anywhere.
I've been really impressed with NC's lately. There's a guy who autocrosses locally with Ohlins suspension on his and hes always battling for the FTD. At a recent Track Night in America at Palm beach, I brought my LS1 e36. I spent a bit of time playing with an NC. I would pull on him on the straights - but not by a lot. He would gain most of it back in the corners. I thought for sure he was boosted, but he was not.
Buy them while you can. Ever since spec nc took off things are starting to get more expensive and lighter on the ground.

Forgot one last piece, has a Roadstersport Exhaust, highly recommended!
In reply to Robbie :
I picked up the cheap high mile silver NC from Greg, and not long after he totaled its replacement and is now rebuilding it. I'm trying to get it back in good shape and stay under the $2020 budget for some shenanigans later in the year. I won't be a major contender but I've always wants to run the event. For now I've been using it as my daily and saving some gas money vs. driving my truck. It helps that winter has been pretty lame this year too. Its no small car like an NA, but even in a well aged form like my car I'm impressed with how fun it is and I could see myself going back for a nicer one in the future.
I'm honestly curious where this narrative started that the NC is large and/or overweight. You can easily have an NC1 that weighs on par with an NB2, and even less than a Mazdaspeed Miata.
Length and width are within 2" of an NA and height is within 0.5" of an NA.

Long ago, Some NC owners met at a secret garage near Mazda headquarters in japan. The plan? To devise a way to keep the NC a hidden gem until the time was right. Their plan was successful. This secret Miata society goes by
Codename: Yacht Club.

In reply to z31maniac :
Because it went in the direction of larger and heavier, rather than smaller and lighter. The NA was really light and small, the NC being built to share suspensions components with the RX8 enlarged the width and the car was a few hundred pounds heavier that the NA. Result was a negative vibe that was nor really deserved for the car. Anyone that drives one, enjoys the increased room and comfort and once you fix the suspension, it is quite a capable sports car. The stock suspension settings have the car sitting high and it uses all the suspension travel, thus the "yacht" reference.
