But it's not even a few hundred pounds heavier. Like

Because it went in the direction of larger and heavier, rather than smaller and lighter. The NA was really light and small, the NC being built to share suspensions components with the RX8 enlarged the width and the car was a few hundred pounds heavier that the NA. Result was a negative vibe that was nor really deserved for the car. Anyone that drives one, enjoys the increased room and comfort and once you fix the suspension, it is quite a capable sports car. The stock suspension settings have the car sitting high and it uses all the suspension travel, thus the "yacht" reference.
I think its a perception issue. The car is actually quite small and only slightly larger than the NB, but because of the way it is styled, it appears much larger than it actually is. Especially when you look at official pictures which alters the viewpoint and provides nothing to compare it to.
Side by side with a C5 Corvette. The NC looks chubby. It's not and took Spoolpigeon 5 runs to edge my time on a shortish autocross course (he's a better driver than I am)

It's the bulbous nose. I agree with the "looks bigger" comment. At one time I had the NA and nc next to each other. It's dwarfs it. But Mazda did a good job making a car that fit the safety parameters, stayed light weight (compared to its contemporaries), and looked good. In the NA, it's your coffin. They'll bury you in that car. In the NC, you might live.

I need to eventually start a pay account to get my old pictures off Photobucket.
There is a great picture at my old house of my '13 Mustang GT sitting next to my '90 Miata in the garage. It almost looks like a hot wheel by comparison.

Seems my buyer has had some unexpected and unforseen problems. Give me a shout at Armstrong390 at the yahoos if you want to discuss more.

Will do, guessing the email/contact through the site didn't go through?
My email is my screenname @ gmail dot com. But I will send you an email post haste!
EDIT: Email sent, hopefully I didn't fat finger the name.
Well, I just have to figure out exactly when I can fly out to Kentucky, but it looks like I'll be purchasing a car that is far more capable than my mediocre skills.
No rush whatever, It's just sitting in the garage.
Fun thing with this car. It is the easiest thing ever to drive to the limit. The super-fuji diff makes you look like a driving god and the turn in response is just silly.
Just remember to ALWAYS turn off the traction control. I swear it wants to kill someone by being so intrusive.
