I always wave at Miatas (Miatii? What exactly is the plural here?) 90% of NA's wave back, 60% of NB's and 10% of NC's. Oddly, 100% of ND's so far. (I've only seen a few). I occasionally drive my dad's Wrangler and most "Jeep/Wrangler People" wave, except the soccer moms in the 4 doors, I don't even bother with them.
I've also taken to doing the "headlight wave" at anyone with pop up lights. The late model Firebird guys are the only ones who don't seem to get it.
My 4Runner occasionally gets a smile/nod from someone else in a lifted one, but usually only when the awning is bolted up and it's all dirty from a trip. Bend seems more into my rig than Portland. Maybe I'd get more attention here with a Volvo badge
In reply to kazoospec:
It's Federal law to wave in a CJ, Wrangler, Cherokee, etc... FMVSS Code# 1945 CJ-1.

The Miata Wave is going strong here in Oklahoma. I get about 90% wave backs from both NAs and NBs. Maybe 10-15% fron NCs. Whenever I get the NA Pop Up wave I return it with an Autobahn double-quick-flash. Haven't run across and ND while in my NB yet.

I always see the Subie bros blowing vape rings and tipping their flatbill at each other.

Second this. I hardly ever pass another MINI without a wave. Of course when I do this driving another car, they think I'm crazy.
enginenerd wrote: My recent adventures in driving a WRX STi have netted me quite a few waves, nods, sneers, exhaust reving, etc. from various other Subaru dude-bros. The highlight was once I was grabbing some BBQ stuff with my wife at a local grocery store and some Subaru guys were hanging out in the corner of the parking lot. As I left, they jumped in their cars and followed me for a bit. Either a friendly impromptu cruise, or a bunch of chumps looking to commandeer some parts.
With the newer WRX (& nicer condition) I get waves from older and newer WRX/STi drivers when encountered. And looking at the local Subie Facebook groups I could guess either of those were true. (Central Ohio would be a cruise, Dayton would be parts commandeering.)
Whenever I drive my TR-6, I have folks asking about it and waving, even if they aren't in a LBC. Usually the MG guys wave, but I just flip them off!
Kidding , kidding....I kid!
Every now and again when I'm in the M3, I'll see another E36 M3, and exchange a nod. They are getting pretty rare on the roads these days, so I don't need to wave too often. (regular E36 car owners don't bother / notice)
The other E30's in my town are two surviving cabriolet models seen in the housing project and at the hospital. Neither driver waves back at me ?!?
I have yet to see another Evo on the road around here (Georgia).
Little British Car guys have been doing the wave forever. Many of them won't wave back to a TR7/8. We are still considered not really the same. One of the long standing traditions with TR8 owners is to blow by any other Brit cars you happen to come up behind on the open road. Can't tell you how many times I've passed an MGB at triple digits.
I didn't read all the replys, but I get/give the Miata/mx-5 headlight "wink" in my na6. I made some guys in my neighborhoods year (judging by his reaction) by giving a miata wink as I drove past him and his really nicely set up NA. He literally jumped up and down in his seat and gave me the biggest thumbs up I've ever seen.
There are a ton of track prepped Miata's in my neighborhood as we're ~40 minutes from Sonoma and SB Garage (a local miata speciality shop).
I drive an e30 and an e28 BMW, and in my area I've found that most other guys in older BMWs of any series (if they have round headlights and real bumpers ) will wave back.
I give waves and thumbs up to any car I think is cool (that encompasses A LOT of cars). Most people will return the favor, but I noticed that it really depends on what car I am driving. If I am in the Jeep or BMW daily drivers, I get more responses...in the Porsche, I generally get ignored. Not really sure why that is...seems the opposite of what I'd expect.
I also converse with the drivers of other cool cars at traffic lights...I seem to find that they are more cordial and engaged when I am in the Jeep or BMW...but again, less engaged or interested when I am in the Porsche.
I still wave to ALL LBCs I see. I started that waving thing when I got my first TR ( in '71 ). Got excited when an XKE actually waved back. That only happened once though.

Lot's waved at my e28, pulled into gas stations to tell me about the e28 they used to have. Would also get waves in the 928. Got different kind of gestures in the 911. No one notices the e61 or the 4-runner. I get people pulling into the drive to talk about the TR4 in the garage when the door is up.
I almost forgot. A couple of months back I actually got a wave and a thumbs from a guy driving a brand new Huracan. And he waved first! I can only assume that in spite of being a rich guy he must also be a Miata enthusiast!

I would occasionally get waves in the E36. They're pretty common around here though and most people don't notice mine. It looks mostly stock.
I've been surprised by how little love there is for the MS3 too. I don't see many but when I do I give a wave. I haven't gotten a single wave back in almost two years of ownership. Tough crowd.

Doesn't surprise me, it's a new Porsche from the "Porsches are concentrated snobbery on wheels, also they're fast" era, try an old one from the "Porsches are cool performance cars" era You'll get a lot more waves in general, just less from the new Porsche drivers

Probably because all of them have broken headlight mechanisms.
