JThw8 wrote: So seriously, a plan is hatching but I know next to nothing about skid pad testing. How critical is power? The current plan would be a little low on the HP but there's an alternate strategy which would increase the very minimal effort I intended to invest in this but would double or triple the power output of the vehicle. If power isn't that critical I'll stick with getting a lot of rubber under it and suspension mods and other bad ideas.

Power is secondary. Think slow car fast. Get it up to.speed and keep it there. I might be able to get a higher absolute out of my ms3 if I punch it and hold on for dear life but the mini would win due to consistency. It can just keep rotating. I was thinking about how I'd build an fwd car for the event, and it was really weird. Lots of down force in the back but a fat sway and a rounded tread profile to get the ass to rotste. Fat squares up front, wider than the rear, and maybe even disconnect the front bar. If I thought I could get it done.in time, I'd prep the ms3 to test my theory. Its already got all the adjustable suspension bits, I'd just need a new sat of fat Baloney's for the 9's I have hidden away, and build a spoiler.

Wait...

Wheels777 is considering an event with NO straight lines???

Yeah, but he bolts it together in a linear pattern!

The above photo piggybacks off my question of power. I thought it would be as mndsm described where power is not as much an issue. But are the speeds achieved enough to even make a wing effective in such a competition?

I have much learnin to do but its a cheap bad idea so it will at least be fun :)

Seriously, that super modified would probably be too heavy and overpowered to be any good on a skidpad. That car is designed for speeds well over 100 mph. Doubtful you could ever get it working well on a skidpad. A Formula student car is much better suited for the lower speeds. Low to the ground, low vehicle weight, just enough power, and tons of downforce equals success for this challenge. One team at the Formula Student challenge this past year built a car that could theoretically be run upside down at about 89 mph. That's a ton of downforce at a fairly low speed. It's also possible an electric car may have an advantage here. http://www.racecar-engineering.com/formulastudent/

The super would only probably only work counterclockwise.

Well in a fit of stupidity I'm fairly certain I've come to terms on a car to build for this. Its under powered (50hp?), has terrible suspension design, and makes no sense at all other than the 10" wide rear and 6" wide front wheels which will get maxed out with whatever tire I can find cheap. At least its light. More info to come once I have it back in the shop.

Depending upon which pro-touring car i have running, expect my dad and I to be there hammering the piss out of it. Driven down and back. Can't see much likelyhood of tearing E36 M3 up on a skidpad.

Surely you've seen this before? There's some great video somewhere I'll have to dig up, its a chick magnet at Jimmy Buffet tailgates, they all want to climb in the hammock with you :)

Of relevance I will be stealing parts off of this for the car I'm building ;)
