Ideas twirling around in my brain again. I looked but can't find the weight of a complete Mazda 1.6. Anyone know?

Surprisingly darned heavy.  I have one on the stand in the basement right now and it's more than I want to lift by myself.   I can check tomorrow if Keith doesn't beat me to it.

I think he meant just the engine....

using google-foo, i found 272lbs. That is intake manifold to exhaust manifold dressed.

I see 392lbs fully dressed with accessories on miataturbo.net.

Vorshlag Motorsports site says a complete dressed 1.8 is 350 lb.  I would think a 1.6 is less, but I have no idea how much.

Edit: Found an entry that suggests 280 lb with clutch, intake and exhaust and alternator.

I weighed a complete engine and trans at 375lbs I think. It was a long time ago.

I have weights for the anorexic ND engine and a few other bits of NA driveline but not the 1.6 engine. Mostly because it is what it is in our world :)

Well i happen to have 2 sitting on the shop floor waiting for their next home. But it will take me a few weeks to get stuff sorted out and moved around into a position where I will be able to weigh them.

Also I only have floor scales and my 'fish' scale only goes up to 50 lbs. So it might take a bit of tom-foolery for me to get an accurate number.

Yes and really good balance. Plus my bathroom scales have the awesome feature of having the readout on the same surface as the weight bearing surface. So that means often when you put something big down on it you can't actually read the scale.

I would be interested in those weights as well.

Here is the scoop; I was offered up a 1.6 with trans. Now that I'm making the F500 my primary vintage racer my focus on the Datsun is going to be more track day oriented. As someone who has the word "analyst" in their job title I tend to go round and round on these types of decisions.

In reply to Tom1200 :

Is the engine compartment in the Datsun long enough for the Miata engine? Will the Miata add weight, all of it on the nose of the car? Even if it fiits does it sit further forward? I only ask because my initial thought for my '73 Corolla was to put a 1.8 Miata engine in it and it was too long and would push the center of the engine further forward................so I cut out the firewall and put in an LS.smiley

SR20s fit so a 1.6 won't be a problem.
