Seems Nascar "designed"  some really odd spoilers for Sundays race.   So high they had to add a window.

Then they thought the cars were too fast so they added a wickerbill which did not have any effect it seems.

All this after they add power and then try to slow the cars down,  duh.

Average speed for the race as 160+.    Larson proved the cars are strong.

The new aero made for some edge of the seat action, with new spoilers really make these cars aero dependent. I also want to note how the chevy front ends to not make for good bump drafting.

One of the better "Modern" Era Races Of Late And For Two Reasons ;

1.  150 HP Mo Better, Now Give Them the Rest of what's Possable.

2. That Big Ass Spoiler That Needed A Rear Window,    Mo is better.  190 MPH pole is a Long way from 212, and yes I would like to see a car that could Break Away and Lap the Field. That Can Be done with a car that can Just Clear the Field and Catch Flags and Such, Don't Have to Run Off and Leave 'em .

  Dodge Needs Some of This

In reply to GTXVette :

1. 150hp and less dead motors.

2. They where doing around 202 on the back straight all day.

Dodge knows how to party, but Nascar doesn't.

This thread would be better with pics of said window spoilers and if I knew which race we were talking about. Makes it harder to find pics when I don't know what I am looking for.

Thanks. Those look like they stuck an old headboard onto the back of the cars.

That 202 was fun to see, and that was most up front cars doing it.  I Did not think they would go 12 MPH Faster in a Pack, 9 would be good. BUT, Ol' Bill went 212 all by Himself.

Buck Baker went over 220 in 65 I think with a Supercharged Hemi, And I think Rusty Wallace may have gone faster, but numbers vary as I think it was sorta Improptu, and Clocks might not have been turned on ,Or something...

April 2005, Rusty Wallace ran a Dodge with no restrictor plate just to see what it would do: 228 mph no drafting help. Image if it had been dialed in and in a pack...

When Ryan Newman came to cup, Penske hired Buddy Baker to mentor him on the superspeedways.  Legend has it, after some laps at Talladega in the 180's Newman asked Baker if he had ever driven those speeds at the track.  Buddy said "We never ran that slow".

I remember one of the (then) big magazines back in the 80's had a Porsche 962 and the NASCAR Folgers car (Tim Richmond?) on the cover with a headline asking which one could hit 240 mph. If I remember correctly, it was the Folgers car, but it was not in official race spec while the Porsche was.

EDIT: It was Road & Track:
