Wow, that sucks...
I've knocked stuff off shelves onto cars before, but never the whole shelf.
sorry to see that.

This is why I have to secure everything to a wall, otherwise things would be falling on me all the time.

Huh? What does an insurance company have to do with this???
Ouch. Yeah - that style of shelving HAS to be attached to the wall.
I have the same open-bottom set-up in my shed so I can store engines and transmissions underneath.

Depending on the policy, insurance may cover it. When a garage door spring broke in a subzero spell and landed on the hood of my 2002, Hagerty wrote me a check that covered the entire repair (new hood, paint, install).

Yes, I get that part, given what I do for a living... But I simply don't get the "This is one of those times I hate insurance companies..." part. Why the hate? What did they do wrong??

That I can't comment on. Well, I could, but it would be idle and pointless speculation that would add nothing of value to the conversation. So I won't.
I wouldn't bother with insurance for this small amount. Looks like I can get a replacement off eBay for $300. But unfortunately none are close enough to pick up locally so freight shipping would apply. I'm not in a huge hurry to fix it as this was my next project car, and I hadn't planned to start working on it till I get the new garage built.
