Tonight was supposed to be easy. Change the oil in the Lemons car, drain the antifreeze and replace with water, and a little wiring for the camera.
Oh no, it couldn't be that easy, could it.
The oil change went smoothly. No problem.
Went to pull the drain plug for the radiator, and the entire bung snapped off in my hand. ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/unhappy-18.png)
Guess what, no one stocks a radiator for a 86 Civic Si. Advance said they could have one tomorrow until I went down there to pay for it. Sorry it'll take a couple of days.
Yesterday the car was pretty much done. This is what it looked like an hour ago.

This is the culprit.

And repaired.

I'll check a couple of wholesalers tomorrow and see if I can find a new one in stock. I'm not sure I trust this one. It's reinstalled and isn't leaking, but...

aww crap. Is there anything 'close enough' you can get? We're running a generic Jegs/Summit unit. Even paying a premium, check a dealer, they might have them in stock. Call around to different auto parts stores, too. I can call around and you could get it from me on Friday, at the track, as well. let me know.
Sorry, Man. That really sucks.
See my response in the other thread. Just stick whatever in there. Honda is honda. Zip tie a fan to it and go!!!
we didn't get anything done on the datsun today either. Every nut was stripped out or inaccessible.
Ain't nothing but a thing. She's back together, I've soldered radiators before and this one will probably hold, I'd just rather have another radiator on hand, just in case. Might check LKQ tomorrow if I have time. I guess it's a good thing I didn't put this off till Thursday like I planned.
ASK! Jesus man! I've probably got one in the basement if you can make it through Sat. I'll ask matt if he has a spare (the general tso) either way, nothing is berkeleyed dude!!!
I'll bring what I got. Hong South is bringing a spare too. It's yours if you need it. I'll look tomorrow for a new-in-box for you if you want. Lemme know asap.
In reply to poopshovel:
I think we're covered, but thanks. If anything comes up I'll give you a shout.
Wait... People actually use the drains on radiators?
To me, they always look so goobered up, and I know how fragile radiators are... I just pull hoses...
I thought you were trying some kind of top mount ghetto intercooler...

I do the same.. I have only ever had one radiator with a working drain.. and believe it or not, it was a fiat. It was the only part that was not rusted/corroded

if the bung snaps off again, just find a boat drain plug and stick it in there. either the screw kind, or the flip lock kind to snug it up.

I had one of those West Marine plugs on my radiator in the Stag for a while. It I I remember the only problem with them is that I couldn't find one in the right size. Also the guy who worked at west marine looked at me like I was insane when I said what it was for......
snicker you said "bung" snicker
I have nothing useful to add to this conversation, sorry ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/evil-18.png)
JB Weld works great on that kind of stuff. I have an aluminum rad with a copper outlet pipe JB Welded on and it's held for years. Even withstood a couple of engine overheats with a 16LB rad cap.
