Someone at work is always doing Chrysler minivan intake gaskets, or intake gaskets on an Impala or some other crappy GM sedan. Seems like it just comes with the territory on these vehicles.

Oh, and nearly all minivans suck to work on. That also comes with the territory...
I guess it's a trade-off for the practicality they offer.

The 02 up chyslers are easy to do the plugs. Just got reach around the intake and thats it. Thenolder ones sucked.

The older 96-00 ones i would do the rears from the bottom.

As far as the lower intakes i've never had to do in 10 years on a 3.3/3.8 (maybe it's much worse in colder areas??), my brief research suggests it's a ~2.5hr job on a chrysler vs 6 on a gm (book time). I think the reason for the difference is that the top of the GM motor is a PITA design that makes everything harder than it should be, whereas the chrysler is definitely one of the simplest modern v6 engines to work on.

If you just assume you'll never have to work on it, or only do it once, maybe it's not a big deal. I certainly assume based on my experience that i'll never have to work on my 3.3/3.8 engines. But when you do your own work sometimes it pays to stick to vehicles that don't piss you off because of their PITA design.

All cars are poorly designed and a PITA in some way, it all just depends on what you are willing to put up with and what you're not.

That's one of the many reasons why I don't use air ratchets.

I use them when taking things apart. I use them on large bolts when going back together. This was a decent size bolt and only a 1/4" air ratchet. I'm surprised it had enough power to break the casting. Such is life. It will either stay together or not.

Probably had gunk built up in the bottom of the hole and when the bolt over tightened, it caused a hydraulic pressure spike and boom.

Sucks. Hopefully it will hold.
