Though it might turn into something a bit too "inside baseball," another thread had be thinking on what are the GRM Classic Blunders?
For original(ish) source material, this is pointed back at Wallace Shawn's character, Vizzini, from The Princess Bride. The classic blunders listed there were:
- Never get involved in a land war in Asia
- Never go up against a Sicilian when death is on the line
Should we attempt to collect the GRM equivalent? I'll start with:
- Never get involved with a Land Rover Discovery
- Never accept a free Lotus Europa project
- ??

If you need a super technical expert answer about some obscure field or technique or object and you need the correct answer right now, ask on the GRM forums first.

This is the one that always got me, which of course dramatically increased the price of projects.
For instance when I did the track rat NA Miata build. "Hmm, well I'm upgrading to Sport brakes for an eventual motor swap. Since I'm also putting on coilovers, let's go ahead and pull all the control arms, have them blasted and powdercoated, put in poly bushings, and use all new OEM bolts and nuts to put it back together since all this stuff is 22 years old."
I'm very a much a "while I'm in there" type person as I hate rework.
