Found this under an old cupboard I pulled out, looks like poop of some description but don't know from what creature - can anyone ID? I would guess rat but they're browner than I would expect. They're about 3/8" long. If they're not poop, maybe some kind of insect pods or something?

Thanks

Old kidney beans?  They're pretty uniform...

Most likely rat poop, if they are shiny and smooth they are the right size and shape to be American cockroach (Palmetto Bug) eggs.

Most def turds--some healthy mice may have dined for too long in that location.

Honey Locust tree seeds?  Cut one in half.  Is it poop, or is it a seed?

Just re-read the OP.  Under a cupboard?  I'm inclined to agree with DWNSHFT and old dark red kidney beans.

They look like old Palmetto bug egg cases.
And a bit like rodent poop.

Given the location (California) it's probably rodent poop.
