I'd like to start out by saying I'm HARD on brakes, I have a habit of coming into highway ramps I'm familiar with heel toeing and on the brakes hard. I can cook a set of cheap pads to a point of standing on the pedal to make them work anymore in a year or less. I've crazed rotors on cars that have never seen any sort of competition.
The vehicle in question is a 99 Prizm, I was hoping it shared brakes with a Celica or something with some street performance options, but that doesn't appear to be the case, seems the brakes are specific to the 98-02 prizrolla. I've finally degraded whatever the PO had on there (which worked fine initially, I.E. bit when I put some pressure on the pedal) to a point where I'm annoyed with them.
So what do? How are the cheap "POWER STOP" pads rock auto lists as hipo/heavy duty?
Porterfield will put whatever compound you want on a backer that fits your car. They may cost a but more upfront than parts store pads but they'll last longer too.

Autozoo sells Performance Friction pads. They will be good enough for aggressive street driving. What could possibly go wrong?
Custom built stuff is definitely out of my budget.

I haven't checked, they just need a backing plate and the thickness/shape, seems I've been told that all they have to do is cut an existing pad to fit …
once they have the pattern, you're good to go for the future
Come to think of it, I do sort of know a guy who just bought a Haas CNC machine and needs people to give him practice, though I'm probably just going to get Power Stop pads based on a few favorable reviews I was able to dig up here and how cheap they are.
We run Porterfields on our two Chumpcars. They never fade and outlast anything we've used so far. I can find out what compound they are if you're interested.
Ugh, I put "'99 Corolla" into buybrakes.com to see all the options, and they truly are dismal...so +1 for custom pads.
