BTW, if you get a Nissan with AWD and manual, you wouldn't have the CVT transmission issue you're trying to avoid.

Believe that the new Mazda 3 also comes with 4WD and the sport version is a lot better than the 6 for space utilization (and they both have the same driveline, IIRC.

Her X-Terra self-destructed a torque converter automatic because if the crappy radiator/trans cooler design. My hardbody sheared an input shaft on a manual transmission. Yeah, no, Nissans are an absolute no-go. I'd consider a GM before a Nissan.

I mean, many transmssions for trucks come from from the same suppliers (Toyota, Mazda and GM for example), and random failures happen with manufacturing and an isolated failure wouldn't necessarily sour me on a particular make or model.

A history or a number of reported failures?  Sure, that's obiously a dropped ball in there somewhere.

PLOT TWIST!

FSWMBO texted me a dealer contract. She's buying a B8 A4 Quattro 2.0T/MT6, 2011 Premium Plus, liquid silver on black, lowered on Eibach's with some ECS goodies.

So, uh, anybody want a well-maintained 2006 A4 Quattro 2.0T "red T" MT6?

The manuals in hardbody's and Frontiers all have the same failure from an engineering fault. The crap radiators/trans coolers kill almost all of their autos. Tons of recalls, TSB's, and class-actions. Both episodes completely soured us on anything and everything Nissan. Single most expensive repair ever for me, and I have windowed blocks more than once.

I used to make a boat load of bonus $$$ every quarter selling literally hundreds of Subaru head gasket sets as a parts rep.

She put 30K miles on a 150K mile Audi in 10 months and the only issue was a coil pack.

This meets almost none of your requirements but I think they look cool;

EDIT:  Okay I missed some posts but I'm keeping the image anyway because that's how I roll.  Also finding some ironic humor in not wanting to have to do serious work like head gaskets or have transmission issues so she ended up with an Audi, a paragon of long-term reliability and easy maitenance.

I thought either or both the ATS and/or CTS could be configured as manual and AWD too?

That's impressive, surprised one of those plastic dipstick tubes didn't just crumble in your hands.

Also NA EJs have that issue, turbo EJs and the new FA and FB engines seem to not have that issue either.

Also that car looks great, congrats on the new ride!

That car looks great, other than the gauge in the HVAC vent.  We don't cotton to  that round these here parts, lol.

My Nissan hardbody manual has 400k mikes on it.  The trans has been flawless.  Just sayin'.

I've got two different customers with frontiers that needed manual transmissions overhauled at 200k. I considered it normal. I'm not a big fan of their CVTs but i also don't think they're especially bad.. among cvts.. any more. Which is just to say that lots of brands have CVT issues. In objective terms, though, it does sort of seem like CVTs failed to be an improvement over earlier trans reliability more than they were actually worse than their predecessors. Two family members of mine have different results, one has an original 190k mile early nissan CVT, and one spent ~5k having a traditional nissan auto from the same time period rebuilt with less miles. There's a 210k mile original Titan transmission over there too.

If you never want to spend money on a transmission ever, there is always.. the Prius. I have my old one back to do some brake pads. At 312k the trans is fine (and the battery is hanging in there) but other stuff is finally starting to break.
