There were convertible turbo Dodges, right?  That probably doesn't fit the definition of "relatively newer" though.

Fits family, convertible, available with a turbo (two options for that) and an automatic. Also should be pretty close to dirt cheap.

How about a Fiat 500c?  They’ve got to be depreciating as badly as regular 500s.  Would be fine to start with, as long as the dog doesn’t mind waiting for someone to fold a seat for him to get out, and with the Dancer’s height, you might even be able to fit a baby seat behind her seat.

dang, it only took me 30 seconds to find a sub $10k  2014 FIAT 500 Abarth Cabrio with a 5 speed on autotrader.

If you are brave VW Eos or A4. I feel like they made A3 too. A5 convertible is beautiful. S5 even better looks wise.

It would primarily be for me, as I'm the one who enjoys driving so (as long as my ankle isn't in a brace from a snapped Achilles) I'm the one who drives us everywhere- but there are certain vehicles (like the mustangs) that she refuses to have anything to do with and wouldn't want to ride in, so her tastes are also important. And I want her to be able to drive it when necessary as well, hence the auto requirement.

Do I really need to explain why I want forced induction? :D The Rampage's turbo is a ton of fun, as were the supercharged 3800s I've had.

Honestly, the odds are we probably won't be taking a baby out in the convertible much if at all- and we currently have 2 decent-sized SUVs that are perfect for car seat schlepping... I just want to look somewhat to the future and don't want to have half our fleet of cars (the DMC being the other one) be 2-seaters.

Wait, since you mentioned supercharged 3800: was there a 00s era Riviera convertible?

I don't consider myself to be a huge convertible fan but i've owned at least 5 that i can think of. Interesting. Anyway..

I'm personally looking at ~06-09 c70s. I've got a decent chunk of 'modern volvo' experience and among folding hardtops I can think of a few i would trust distinctly less. It's got 4 seats, an auto, and a turbo, and it looks good in my opinion.

If you didn't care about looks i'd recommend the PT just because it's easily going to be the goofiest as far as being faster than it probably should be with minor mods and the rear seating is probably going to be about the best. Combine that with being nearly worthless and it could be a good match. You just have to not care what it looks like. Or maybe... like it?!

I really enjoyed the xk8 that we owned for 2 years.  It fit small kids in the back, was decently quick and was classy.

I don't think I've ever seen one of these before, but (although it's likely solidly outside of what our price range will be...) I actually think it looks like it would be fun:

They could buy a Murano Convertible, but they would have a hard time driving it because they would have to very careful getting into it.  I understand that if you look directly at a Murano Convertible, it is like looking at Medusa and turns you to stone, due to how hideous it is.  Possibly urban legend.

Just wanted to note that a car seat fits nicely in the back of a BMW 135i. That was our Miata replacement when the family started to grow.
