1946-1948 Chevy.

Cheby? All the pics of the Chevy I've seen have the fenders stopping much further towards the front than that. The only pics I can find with the fender line going that far across the door is a Caddy, but they swear they've never owned a Chevy or a Caddy so we're stumped.

Gonna go Google right now.

Well it looks like it could be a Chevy Fleetmaster but all I can find are 2 door pictures and this car is definitely a 4 door.

Since I can't find any Chevys with more than 2 doors could there have been another GM product that produced the same body in a 4 door?

*EDIT...I can't see any rear door body line in your pic....possibly a coupe?

You're right about the rear door in my pic. I was looking for a pic to match one in an old photograph of my Mother In Law. Hers was definitely a 4 door which made the lines all wrong. I was so excited to find a pic like her car because with just the search of a 1940's car I wasn't finding much.

Now that I'm looking for a specific model I cannot find any 4 door models so I'm wondering if it was something else.

The car in your picture is definitely a two door.

I'm going against the grain and saying Packard Club Sedan.

Hard to say for sure, since Mom is standing in front of the door, but it looks like a Fleetline Aerosedan. Very hard to say year without seeing the nose of the car.

I believe my neighbor two houses up has one of those. Haven't ever gotten a real good look at it since it doesn't come out of the garage all that often.

The only shot I have of the real car I'm trying to identify is a side view in a 60 year old photograph. If I could see the grill I definitely could identify it. If we could just post pics to the forum I'd scan it and post one.

Thanx for chipping in on this guys as those cars are too old for me to have a real chance of identifying it by myself. I thought you could find anything you wanted to on the net, but obviously I'm wrong, you need at least one snippet of identifier to have a real chance of finding something.

The Pontiac rear roofline isn't right. It has more of the 2 door rear roof line.

The rear roofline looks more Chevyish to me, but I can find no reference anywhere to a 4 door ever being made and the car in my real pic is definitely a 4 door. They weren't rich so I'm guessing no Caddy or Packard. Although they did have an Austin Sedan. "It was that English car that fell apart after about 2 months." is how she identified it.

The Packard front fender doesn't come far enough into the door for it to be a Packard.

Scan it, post it up to a free photo account somewhere and then hotlink that thing! Or if you don't have and don't want to make a photoobucket or similar account email it to me and I'll put it up. Can't help with the car ID though.

Torpedo body; it's a Cheby or a Pontiac.

From CARS

Looking at the hood spear I will say Chevrolet.

It's an aerosedan Chevy, they were a two door car only. You can see in the enlarged photo above that there's no rear doors; also, four door cars had a higher roofline.

Go here: http://www.oldcarbrochures.com/main.php?g2_itemId=15658&g2_page=3 and look at the factory brochures for 1946, 1947 and 1948 Chevrolets.

You said it came in 2 door only, but then you said the 4 door had a higher roofline. Since the real car definitely was 4 door I'm going to presume that you meant the car in the only photo I found was a 2 door (I knew that) but that a 4 door was available. I can get the real car photo this evening.

While I haven't had time to go to your link yet, I will. Brochures would definitely help. I appreciate it guys.

OK, I misunderstood...I thought the car in the picture was the actual car you were talking about. Yes, Chevy sold two door and four door cars back then, but the one in the posted photo is an Aerosedan, and that particular body style was a two door only.

My brother in law had an Oldsmobile that looked like that. Same body, less geehaws.
