Pretty low for 80 year old knees.
Saab 9-3, nice one with low mileage will be under $10k. Otherwise some sort of classic. The MINI is too harsh. The v6 mustang is likely a good bet, but not very exciting and too common. The 3er BMW would also be a nice cruiser.
I was just about to suggest a c4/c5 vette convertible until I saw the knee comments. I could barely get out of a c4 in my 20s lol.
Not the Solara...I'd hate for my last car to be a solara.
I think a Rolls or bentley vert would be cool.
nice used SL 500 or 600.
Z8 (I realize this is out pricewise probably, but it is awesome)
XLR if he can get in and out.
something vintage like the Caddy posted earlier
This reminds me that my great-uncle had a special edition Miata that he very dearly loved. I'm pretty sure he passed it onto my cousin, which is ok.
He lived in California, but drove it back to the UP many times by himself on his way to family reunions. He really loved that car.
I think he was 87 when he passed. He was also a WWII veteran- served as a paratrooper in SE Asia. No idea what he did, since he never spoke of it. But it was not as if he was the most limber of persons.
Good luck in finding the right car- it will be worth it!
V6 Mustang is all wrong, as is the dreadful Sebring.
Your Gramps has style, so he needs a V8 Mustang. Not just an GT will do though, he should find a California Special (GT/CS) from 06-09:
The GT/CS had all of the go-fast looks, bit none of the equipment. Instead it got decals, spoilers, leather, and luxuries. It's perfect for a guy that wants to look cool but is done with racing around like a hooligan.
MINI or Mustang.
If part of the plan is to keep him active, "young" and out of the house a bit more, look into the local MINI community, which tends to be surprisingly older and more active than your typical car enthusiasts. Very social. At least in the Philly area. Nobody around here would bat an eye if an 88 year old man showed up at an event/gathering.
