Get the Escape detailed and keep it.
Well once it was mentioned, apparently she's attached to it. It's not a bad little truck, just figured I would fish out my options.
Thanks again, GRM!

Regular AWD.
In reply to Osterkraut:
Fuelly is showing the V40 as 25-31 and the V50 as 27-42. The best Forester is at 24. That's a whooping in my book...

The V50 was never offered in a Cross Country model, which you specifically mentioned (and I compared with the Forester first) and included when stating "they all trump the Subaru on gas mileage." On fueleconomy.gov, the combined mpg of a 2006 Forester automatic and a 2006 automatic, FWD V50 are the same. Note that on Fuelly, the averages are being pulled upward by diesel/non-US spec cars, with the US spec 2006 cars getting 23-24 mpg.

Well so-o-o-rr-y. I'll never make any fuel economy statements again since gubbermint statistics trump everything. Sheeeeesh.

Nice try with the gub'ment strawman, but your own cited Fuelly disagrees with you once you exclude non-US cars.
I didn't even know fuelly went outside the US man, but way to be Destructive and totally derail a thread versus being constructive to the OP. I was just suggesting a car.

So bad information delivered nicely is useful? Noted.

You pigeon-holing one particular model year and trim to prove you right isn't useful, and neither is being a total shiny happy person. I made a broad generalization about multiple models, that isn't false, and you feel it's much more important to find the one single exception where they are equal to show off how all-knowing you are with web links. Stop being a prick, it's getting really old.

American V50's don't greatly exceed a Subaru Forester in gas mileage, year-for-year. No pigeon holing required, 2006 was just picked as a year I knew off the top of my head they both were being produced. Stop being wrong, it's getting really old.

Did I ever say the V50? NO. Did I ever say just the V50? NO. Did I ever say 2006? NO. (And where do you buy a 2006 anything for under $6000 that's not a P71?). You ARE pigeon-holing, and just being a plain-old dick. Just stop.
Oh, and just to make sure you really understand what kind of a total E36 M3head you've been this week (really, you should have been banned for the "strangle your fat neck" comment from Monday):
All from your own favorite website. Gee, would you look at that? Anytime one of the Volvo's has the same drivetrain as the Scooby (Turbo/AWD) it still gets better MPG. Imagine that. In fact, the Subaru's don't get any mileage boosts until the 2005 MY, and even then they still are worse off than the Volvo's, like-for-like.
You are being a facetious jerk. All your post had to say was, "According to the EPA, the XC70's don't do as well as the Forester's on MPG", not all the garbage you just spewed to try and assert your dominance. Do you understand how much of an ass you've been this week?
In reply to Javelin:
I went with the V50 as a favor to you, as the XC line in absolutely no way trumps the gas mileage of a Subaru.
A 1-2 mpg highway increase, while drinking premium as opposed to regular, is hardly trumping.
I apologize for the fat neck comment, I figured the self-depreciating bit included in there would have indicated humor, but clearly you didn't catch that. Or I'm not funny. Which is impossible, I'm hilarious!
