Ok, went to Fredericksburg VA last week for a QUICK trip. Saw a couple things on the way up.
First is at a rest area. I'll be honest while not being too blunt - the driver of this car was VERY different looking from the passengers, who were in the back. So, Im thinking this was something REALLY nice...but what?
Next, there were a few cars under wraps on a hauler, C8? Looked like side scoops on them
Exhaust tips scream Corvette to me.
First car is a Maybach, which is Mercedes based but gets a ton of extra special treatment. Wildly expensive.
Maybach is a stretched luxo sedan from Mercedes. If you get one, you likely have a chauffeur.
Price[edit]
As of early 2008, European and United States prices were:[7]
- Maybach 57 - $366,934[8] / €341,750[9]
- Maybach 57 S - $417,402 / €381,250
- Maybach 62 - $431,055 / €392,750
- Maybach 62 S - $492,602 / €432,250
- Maybach Landaulet - $1,350,000 / €900,000[10]
First car is a Maybach 57s 6.0 Mercedes bi-turbo v12. Originally built from a stretched Mercedes w140 chassis. They did all kinds of work to get them to ride and corner the way they do. Rumor is they went with the w140 chassis because the newer w220 chassis couldn't handle the weight and ride requirements. They dub it the w240 lol
Worked on a Maybach 62s back in the 00's, full on long wheelbase, v12 bi-turbo etc. Owner couldn't pay his $25k repair bill, bank accounts frozen by the FBI. I drove it for several months, just once a week to McDonald's at lunch to keep rust off the rotors, until a federal repo man came and picked it up. Apparently running a prostitution ring in DC is a no no.
Those are Corvette C8 on the hauler.

Just in DC? Asking for a friend.

Getting caught anywhere is a no-no.

Thanks all for the replies
Yeah, the driver, and I'll be blunt, was a black dude in 'street clothes' - fashionable jeans a white tee etc. Not badly dressed, but not fitting for the other two folks
The two folks in the back were Mediterranean looking and VERY well dressed. And the fact that they were in the back and no one was in front seat was a giveaway that this is something nice

Maybe when you Turo a Mayback it comes with a chauffeur?
If you can afford a Maybach by running a prostitution ring in DC I assumed you would have some fairly wealthy and well connected clients and would then have enough blackmail material to keep yourself out of prison. I guess I'm wrong and am now glad I didn't pursue that line of business.

He clearly missed the lawyer and politician clientele. He must've been an average pimp.
In reply to yupididit :
Nah, he just had the wrong clients.
That Maybach looks somewhat ... beat for a Maybach. Bumper looks like it has scratches, and the license plate is bent. The depreciation on those surely is on par with an S-class (so, staggering).

That one could be nearly 20 years old now. You can find that vintage for sale under $50k even in the current insane market. The chauffeur having types are probably rolling around in newer, more pristine examples. I'm guessing this one was a rental or Uber of some sort for people that want to feel fancier than they are.
