The challenge car will have life after and before the challenge.
My question is, what autocross class should I be looking at?
1980 amc spirit with gutted interior, no lights, slicks, and a Ford 302 drivetrain.

Cam does. But we don't have, and wouldn't install, enough interior to be legal.
We are channeling imsa here. Kind of like t-bone did with can am.
And amc parts are rare and expensive.
It should be legal for X-Prepared.
Of course, the index for X-Prepared is only slightly softer than the index for E-mod.
AMC= All Makes Combined.
My friend who is restoring a 67 Rambler is finding out this is the truest statement ever, except for interior trim parts, everything he needs has been cheap and easy to find, because everything on it was used at some point by one of the big three. Whoda' thunk that that the orphan brand car would be the lowest cost restoration ever?
So a Ford motor in an AMC should be considered a same make swap by any scrutineer old enough to know how to set up a points ignition correctly.
What's so hard about installing points. QED
Did AMC ever use a Ford engine ? A couple GM's might sneak in there.
AMC pretty much stuck to there own engines an they were pretty good for the time.
