I knew Nissan had sold more Zs than Toyota sold Supras, but I didn't consider the Charger.
I feel like the big question will be how long the Charger can hold the lead.

Honestly a bit shocked about the Miata being on that list. I wonder if that reflects a supply/availabilty situation, or if they just don;t sell as many of those as I thought they did.
So... the brand new Charger barely out-sold the decade-old MX-5...
Outsold 4 niche market cars and an abomination on wheels that sits across from it on lots*
How many of those were to rental car fleets?
It is the new hotness. Time will be the ultimate test.
It looks like the Audi Etron GT sold 2,894 units for all of 2024. Not really in the same price market but interesting.
Mazda sold 2,593 units in Q2 2024. Down 10.3%
Subaru sold 1,332 units in Q2 2024 Up 20.41%%
Toyota sold 1011 units in Q2 2024. Down 19.88%
Nissan sold 786 units in Q2 2024. Up 108%.
Dodge sold 16,216 ICE Chargers in Q2 2024. That's down 85.5%
Looks like Nissan is the big winner year to year with Subaru in a not so close second.

100% agree. I would be pleasantly surprised if the EV Charger still comes out on top in the coming months or years.
Its really shocking how little the supra sells. It is a fantastic car.

There seems to be some regional variations. Here in Colorado:
WRXs are everywhere. New and old. AWD is king here.
Miatas are very common.
Dodge Hornets are mostly rental cars, but they're around.
Supras are rare but I'll see them time to time. And there are always 2-3 at track days.
I saw one Nissan Z at the dealership a year or two ago, and one at a car show this year, but have yet to see one on the road.
An EV Charger was parked in front of the dealer when they were released, but I haven't seen one since.

The year to year numbers are astonishing. I read that as a complete failure in Dodge's ability to read its own market and consumers. They don't have a clue.
They took a popular product that was able to sell 64,000 units per year and mutilated it to only be able to sell 11,000 units per year. Thats over a billion dollars in annual sales flushed down the toilet.

A little bit of both. The Miata hasn't been a big seller for a long time.
The best year ever (in the US) was 1990, when they sold just over 51,000. The ND has only sold more than 10,000 units twice: 2017 (hello RF) and 2021. The NC only cracked 10k three times, and the best year of the NC was almost identical to the worst year of the NA.
That said, 2025 has been a better year for the Miata than 2024. Sales were up pretty strongly in Q1, and the sales volume for Q2 makes it look like there was a supply problem in April - sales went from 727 (March) to 335 (April) to 1244 (May).

The ND Miata has been around for 10 years now. It's not terribly surprising that sales have dropped off. It's not hard to find a low mileage used one, either. It's kind of competing against itself at this point.

I was recently surprised to learn that the entire rear trunk lid is plastic.. not even FRP like a Miata hardtop or Corvette body, but actual, gets-soft-in-the-sun plastic... As in, mount a wing on it and it'll deform and tear the trunk lid.

In this case, he doesn't. The CEO (Carlos Tavares) got run out of the company late last year, and after he left Tim Kuniskis (the long time Hemi proponent who "retired" after running Dodge under the previous CEO) suddenly returned to right the ship. In his first 6 months on the job, Kuniskis has reentered NASCAR Trucks with RAM, returned the Hemi V8 option to the trucks, and has recently rebooted the SRT performance team.
No mention of Jaguar only moving 49 units in Europe?
Although I guess that was a monthly sales figure, not a yearly.
No I didn't dig too far deep, just thought it was an amusing headline that could make a good comparison.

I disagree with the ugly part. But the second part is dead on. Being mostly a bmw with a stupid high price tag makes no sense to Toyota.

Jaguar decided to stop all sale of existing cars for a year or two to completely retool their brand. Their logic was literally, "We're losing money on all the cars we sell, so what if we don't sell any cars?" I'm reminded of the Dilbert comic where the pointy-haired boss theorizes if they cut costs enough they can turn a profit without selling a product.

It hasn't really fallen off all that much. It might be 10 years old, but if 2025 continues at the current pace it'll match 2016 and could be the third strongest year for the platform.

Not really on the EV Charger. That's Stallantis and it's CEO trying to push what they want onto us Americans.

We get the good car on it's last year of production if at all.
