Recently I had the not so fun experience of having to clean out my mom's house after her passing. My uncle was there to help with his 2016 Colorado with the duramini and he had borrowed a 15ft dump trailer. I was surprised when he told me that the little truck had an over 7k towing capacity.
It seemed like a pretty good size and I liked that it had a 6ft bed

I thought I was the only one that used the DuraMini phrase. The answer from me is, uhhhhhhh, not much. Haven't really seen any issues with them at our dealership, but then again, we haven't really sold many. The one thing that stuck out for me when I had to take a training course was that they run a timing belt which has a 150k mile service interval. Not sure I would feel comfortable with that long of an interval on a timing belt.
a quick Google search shows MSRP's in the 50's for these? insert sad trombone...

Someone here on the board has a diesel GMT-700 and loves it. Can't remember who.

I saw 2016's for high 20's when I search before, I think I stole Duramini from you
I can’t be the only one who clicked this expecting a mini cooper with a duramax swap, right?

Ugh.
Why is the "MSRP" of new trucks so frequently brought up on this board? New trucks NEVER sell for MSRP or anywhere close to it.
Example: This morning on the way to work there is a Dodge dealer down here offering $14k off MSRP.........FOURTEEN THOUSAND DOLLARS off MSRP. Ford and Chevy routinely offer $8-10k off MSRP on their trucks.
Even in 2011 when I bought my crew cab Frontier Pro-4X, the dealership not only brought the truck in from another dealer out of state (that ended up having a couple of small extras I didn't want) and I paid $7500 off MSRP with a fair trade-in on my Mazdaspeed 3.

I was thinking duratec for some reason.

My uncle has averaged 26mpg lifetime so far in 12k miles with the crew cab 6ft bed 4x4 with some towing
I have heard that regular maintenance is pricey, though I have no first hand knowledge. Fuel filters, oil, oil filters and DEF. With the increased cost of diesel fuel in most places and the premium you pay on the sticker, it's hard to justify from a financial standpoint.
I have always called it the 'baby duramax' myself.
it has good HP and loads of torque.
Banks makes kit for it already. they claim 100+ HP and 120+ torque from it.

OK.. $14K off of $54K.. still a $40K truck.. Sad trombone stands....

Duramax Tuner's hot tune which they don't recommend running all the time is 52hp and 80ft lbs just a tune.
Green Diesel Engineering claims 40hp 70ft lbs and 3-5mpg increase
Well, I can tell you that the cross member that supports the DEF tank is probably the single highest quality, most well-made component in all of the domestic auto industry
Seriously though, I did some research on them a while back out of curiosity and didn't come across any huge Achilles heels. I agree that the timing belt interval, and really its presence in the first place on a diesel, is slightly disconcerting. It's apparently an Isuzu motor that's been around for a while in foreign markets, so while there isn't a whole lot of data available in this country, there ought to be some knowledge out there. 25mpg and 7k+ towing is definitely an intriguing combo.

I mean my 2004 F-150 supercrew 4x4 I think had 8300 or so with a 5.4 v8 because the 4.1 gears were somewhat less common? and it got 16mpg all day.
Also in case anyone isn't aware. DEF is super cheap at Walmart. Its like 8 bucks for 2 gallon jugs
So what the heck is a duramini?

The 2016+ Chevy Colorado/GMC Canyon with the 2.8l Duramax 4cyl, 180hp or so 360lb ft of torque stock, combined mileage EPA of around 24-25?
However the transmission has been in service globally since 2011 and the motor since 2012 or so about 4 years before coming to the US and is manufactured in thailand

I can tell you that the GMT-700 chassis is a fine-driving not-so-little little truck. They feel as if the entire vehicle is hewn from a single block of granite, with a solidness that not even the Silverado/Sierra has.

That's not limited to the diesel version, nor even the GM mid-size trucks. I think that applies to pretty much everything in this segment.
In reply to Driven5 :
But 7k towing and 25+ mpg? I don't see anything that compares to that except the Ecodiesel Ram, which is a known POS. Think the smaller Ecoboost V6 advertises MPGs in that range, though real world seems to be significantly less.

Around here, you are right. They sell for more than MSRP. Lucky to get MSRP around here. You just get laughed at when trying to negotiate for trucks. Seems to be status to have the most expensive truck. Most truck owners around here would never put anything in the bed, might scratch the Rhino Lining.
I wanted one when I bought my 16 Tacoma but they weren't at the dealers here yet and They were mighty proud of them. Got my 16 Tacoma extended cab V6 SR5 w/tow package for about 6k less than the Colorado/Canyons and it was still more than I've ever paid for a vehicle. I can live with 6600 lb tow capacity and combined 23 mpg.

That's kind of my point. The combination of towing and (real world) fuel economy is the pleasantly surprising part...Not the towing capacity in and of itself.
Duratec swapped mini pics or it didn't happen.
Wait, that's not what we're talking about?!?!
