Mostly all inline 4's. Followed closely by aircooled opposed 4's. A couple v6's, an aircooled flat 6, and only 1 v8.

Can we do aircooled or water cooled ?
Air-cooled , 2 cyl Fiat 500 , too many air-cooled VWs , Corvair 6cyl , 911 6cyl , 912 4cyl 914 4cyl ......and a bunch of motorbikes.....still want a Tatra
Water cooled : Fiat 600 , Fiat Abarths , Renault 4cvs... And lots more European cars
Driver's normally Chevy V8 vans....

7 V8
3 v6
1 flat 4
5 in line 4
I'm selling my Miata, to replace it with another Miata so the straight 4 cylinder configuration is closing in on the V8
I have owed one single (Yamaha enduro), one twin (Honda sl350),a few NA 4's and 3 turbo 4's (all various awd Mazdas and a 69 Datsun 510 and a Fiat best left forgotten), 4 straight six Chevy work vans, not 1 but 2 GM 6.2. diesel disasters.. one in a van and the other in a P chassis motorhome, prolly half a dozen bent 8 work vans of either the Ford or chevy persuasion, 2 V6, 1 bent8 turbodiesel Cat in the back of Moby the Road Condo, and one kompressed bent 8 atomic bomb in this silly ass Mercedes I'm hauling around in these days...
So, mostly V8's.

Edit: i somehow forgot my 3 90s dodge trucks.
I've had one straight six, 6 V6s, 12 I4s , 1 flat 4, and no V8s over the last 42 years. I tend to keep cars for lengthy periods of time. There were several company cars over the years that I haven't counted since they weren't really mine. My intent is to lose my V8 virginity with my next Challenge car.
Keith Tanner said:It's gotta be straight fours, followed by two straight fours with a common crank
You have a lot of flat-plane crank V8s? :)
v8 = 2
v6 = 3
I6 = 3
I4 = 6
2cyl = 1 (2-stroke trabant 601)
Rotary = 2
With the rotary and the inline 6 being my favorite.
Let's see. I think inline fours will rule the day for me. Barely.
2 - V8
2 - V6
1 - Inline 6
1 - Inline 5
3 - Inline 4
2 - Singles
1 - Rotary
Rotaries, I think I've owned 15 with cars attached, however briefly, and as many as 20 if we don't count ones attached to cars.
6 inline 4
5 single cylinders of various displacements
5 V6
4 V8 (one not attached to anything yet)
3 Inline 6
2 horizontally opposed 4
Sonoma, Rodeo, Ranger, Taurus = 4 V6
Miata, Miata, saturn, cavalier = 4 4bngers
Forester = 1 boxer
P71, Tahoe= 2 v8
I feel like I'm forgetting something though.
Lemme see...
V-6 (in both transverse and longitudinal flavors)
I-6 NA
I-4
V-8 diesel-which begat ->
V-8 gas
I-3 turbo
H-6
I-4 turbo
I-6 turbo diesel
H-4 turbo
V-6 turbo diesel
3x I4s.
Edit: Maybe I should say 4x I4s if you count engines of different models that were swapped out.
