I still say the G13B Swift 1.3L mated to a tracker/sami 5-spd trans is the way to go.
I'd love to see this too.

Done
Alright, I didn't realize it worked that way.
I'd love to see this in my garage...
If that works, I have some more for you.

And the F duratecs are not bad either. Look for a 2.3l Ranger.
The 2.0 isn't as tall and has a shorter stroke, should be a better sports car engine. There are enough guys putting throttle bodies on these things that there's gotta be an easily sourced Weber adapter.
(yea, but I was trying to get him into a cheap Ranger instead of an expensive NC... )
((and you would be surprised how little the actual height difference is....although, with the right combo of parts, you can make a low compression 2.0l that's perfect for boost. Did that for a project once... ran great!))
Yeah, except for the D16 you'll need a reverse rotation gearbox or diff.
Or figure out how to run one reverse-rotation from stock, which I asked about doing on this forum a while back, and didn't get a solution for.
On the D16 - You could use the stock trans, weld up the diff, and only use the further output to turn a driveshaft.

You can get a 2.0 out of Focus :)
The height difference is 11mm, from what I recall. Not much, but when you're dealing with a Midget every little bit matters!
Of course, I've been thinking about building a high compression 2.3, THEN adding boost...

But the Focus didn't get the D20 until '05, Ranger has had the D23 since '01.
Any ideas on transmissions to make the Fiat 128 engine or Ecotech RWD?

Wasn't the Fiat 128 RWD to begin with? Or do I just not know.
Solstice was, and it used an Ecotech. I think. I'm skating on thin ice here :)
As for the 2.0 vs 2.3 duratec, I'd still be looking for a 2.0 because it's a shorter stroke and less of a truck motor. But if they're too new, they're too new. And it's not really an option anyhow due to more complex electronics.
In reply to DILYSI Dave:
True, then your problem would be finding a diff with ratio of like 1:1. Plus, the Midget engine bay is already cramped, would there be enough room for the tranny without a bunch of ferrous surgery?
Maybe put the whole D16+tranny in the back, for a mid engined Midget?
^ha! i would love to see that

Fiat 128 was FWD. I'm pretty sure all applications of that engine were transversely mounted. You could possibly use the transmission from a 124 sport or 125, but I don't know.
As for the Ecotech, don't loads of UK Locost (and even factory builds - Westfield ect.) use that engine? There's bound to be an easy solution there.
