I'm wondering if Frenchy and the dude with the Transit Connect will get together and host their own forum.

That would be....interesting?

They'd probably end up banning each other from that forum.

I wonder if maybe a lot of it was just his age.  I see my father acting quite a bit like Frenchy the older he gets.  He seems to almost delight in pissing people off and saying things he wouldn't have dared said at a younger age.  I can't prove that of course, but I feel pretty strongly about it.  I've seen other elderly folks do the same thing.  They simply do not care anymore and would rather pick a side and argue about something than face the loneliness of staying silent.

I was thinking the same thing after seeing my father acting in a similar way in his later years.
I didn't see it as much as a not caring thing, however.

I guess I'm lucky, my old man is 90, still doing woodworking for income and hasn't changed his interaction with people at all. I do think think as we get older most of us tend to have less tolerance for BS but my dad is about the same as he's ever been. We're all different as snowflakes though...

I like how this forum has its characters. I can't say I miss Frenchy, but I like that we all "knew" him, and knew what to expect.

RIP GRM Frenchy. May you drive wonderful Jaguars the rest of your days.

Frenchy was an example of how making your possessions the center of your personality will make someone insufferable.  We all have our little interests or tribes or what have you, like "I only shoot with a Pentax" or maybe "this car company had the best engineering, always" but that stuff gets old pretty quick.

Maybe with his spare time from not posting here, he's going out and buying engine-swapped Jags, and putting V12's in them like the factory intended.

Agree on age being a possibility, and it might simply be loneliness - expressed in his own way, using it as a tool to interact with others. Of course it could also be just another case of "Get off of my lawn!", and we can all picture the person shouting this as probably, well, similar.

I knew Frenchie from before he came here - he was on the Fine Homebuilding forum for a long time .  I don't remember if he got kicked off there or left of his own volition (interestingly, the old timers over there still ask about him from time to time as well).  I went out and visited him one time, to help him with figuring how to post pictures online.  We spent an enjoyable afternoon talking about all kinds of things.  I liked him, but I admit he was pretty opinionated.  His house was amazing, in a beautiful lake setting, and his garage was to kill for - besides the Jaguars (and spare V12 engines stacked up like cordwood) he also had a very nice '34 Ford pickup in there.

I don't even remember the argument that got him the chop but I'm sure it was EV related.

I'm not quite ready to go that far but I do wish we could have just let Frenchy be Frenchy and ignore him when he was perseverating.

I once started a thread about cars where the convertible version was worth less than the fixed-roof.   Just discussing the reasoning behind it and how it defies older logic in the classic car world.   Frenchie went on to tell me I "have no soul" I guess misinterpreting that I somehow hate convertibles.   I'm not mad, it gave me a good chuckle!

Anyhow I enjoy his eccentricities and would like to see him back.  I think everyone needs to embrace other people's views even if you don't like them and maybe grow a little thicker skin.

The problem is he shat all over so many build and challenge related threads plus he was banned years ago for being a colossal D then signed back up with a different name. He should have been axed as soon as it was found out he was mguar

Yeah, I know.  I get it.  To be clear, I'm not saying that he's blameless. I just bums me out a bit.

That's an important point.  I can't argue with that.

I still remember that the gm atlas engine "was a jaguar design". Man he would not let that go. Or pretty much anything. Ever. I know I'm a crotchold man at times but I have a bit to go to hit those levels.

This. Banned means not allowed to post, not "unable to read". Let's not turn this into a dick-punching thread on a guy who's no longer posting. Because at the end of the day he's an old dude who might still be reading, and a thread like this could be what pushes him over some edge.

I was fine with Frenchie and would enjoy meeting him sometime. Don't forget it always takes two to ruin a thread. When I see something that gets my back up, I move on instead of replying. That response seems rare on the internet. And some people took a special pleasure in winding Frenchie up or telling him he was wrong. Perhaps he was wrong. But you can always sigh to yourself, tell your wife what you think, and.....scroll on by.

I have a neighbor who is fond of conspiracy theories. His latest is the moon landing "hoax". He calls people idiots on line and screams at them to wake up and do " research." I have never responded or engaged online, but I like to chat with him when I walk the dog. In a lot of years of living beside him moon landings and other conspiracies have never come up during our face to face talks. He would give someone the shirt off his back if needed.

Wow, I didn't realize my question got so many answers until this morning. I will reach out to him. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one that misses his content when he was on best behavior. He certainly had some interesting views, and without a doubt you a lot about jags.
