Wow, I didn't realize my question got so many answers until this morning. I will reach out to him. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one that misses his content when he was on best behavior. He certainly had some interesting views, and without a doubt you a lot about jags.

I don't think this was an invite back, more of a "what happened?"

I still remember that the gm atlas engine "was a jaguar design". Man he would not let that go. Or pretty much anything. Ever. I know I'm a crotchold man at times but I have a bit to go to hit those levels.
I worked with someone who swore up and down that it was a Volvo design that GM copied.
OTOH, I also had someone (JVL, for those familiar with those initial) insist that the Volvo engine was based on the Audi engines.
I mean, aside from having completely different bore centers, deck heights, oil gallery layout, oil pump design, water pump placement, water jacketing design and topography, cam drive design, and valvetrain layout... they're the same, yesh?

Never try to use logic in an online discussion.

Oh we aren't missing him.
It would be nice to ignore him and not respond. But he was spreading misinformation and a lot of people were correcting him for the sake of the thread content being accurate. Imagine someone searching a topic and finding five 13 paragraph post from Frenchy full of incorrect information and zero post of people correcting that information with the facts/truth.
He was knowledgeable about Jaguars but he wasn't always right and a lot of stuff he said wasn't correct. I think he's still accurate on the jag forums. Last time I looked he was giving them hell lol

So essentially im hearing that they are exactly the same since both are engines.
And obviously all copied from Jaguar?

Y'know, you say Beetlejuice enough times, he's liable to show up. The mans already is serving his sentence. He probably doesn't need the bump in blood pressure.
This. Banned means not allowed to post, not "unable to read". Let's not turn this into a dick-punching thread on a guy who's no longer posting. Because at the end of the day he's an old dude who might still be reading, and a thread like this could be what pushes him over some edge.
More to my point- he gone. The horse is dead. OP needed clarification as to why he was AFK and got it. No real reason to dig up the corpse and keep beating it. This isn't CSI: Miami- we're not looking for evidence.
He was awesome and probably had the most decorated and interesting racing career here. I love crazy ass people. He had good advice and some wack opinions - but it wasn't hard to ignore.
I don't think I ever had an issue with him on here. He always chimed in on my threads with some sort of reasonable advice or direction. E36 M3, I'm just happen when someone helps point me in a direction when I'm desperate enough to post on here for advice on something.
He's got to be super pissed with Elon today.
Tesla scraps low-cost car plans amid fierce Chinese EV competition
Reports are saying the Model 2 is no more. I know that was the EV he was all about buying.

Maybe he can get his hands on one of those Tesla taxis and drop in a Jag V12... that should make him happy!

Maybe, but I doubt it. He was an Elon fanboy and his boy just let him down. The economics of a cheap electric car must not work very well.

If the motivation for engaging someone is the 3rd party benefit, rather than trying to 'win' an argument that cannot be won, it is entirely possible to make an informed rebuttal while also disengaging from the circular arguments that spiral down the drain. The problem is too often people use this type of rationalization as justification for their inability to recognize when they've stopped being a part of the solution, and become a part of the problem.
I found the guy interesting. If he was off on a tangent I just ignored that part.
A young-adult novel written in 1954 titled The Red Car, by Don Stanford had an enormous formative impact on a pre-adolescent Bludroptop. As such, the character of Frenchy shall forever be associated in my mind with young Hap Adams and his MG TC.
Without any justification, I prejudged the subject of this discussion as seeking to appropriate that character's charm and that ticked me off.
In reply to Tom1200 :
Me too.
I would be happy to see him back.
In reply to bludroptop :
Ah, yes, The Red Car. I got that book when I was in the fourth or fifth grade and probably read it 10 times as it had a similar effect on my formative years.
At no time would I ever associate the book's character Frenchy with the banned pedant Frenchyd. While they both had firm opinions about things, Frenchy was at least charming. I still have the book and evidently can lay my hands on it quickly. I have several car books from that time and struggle with what to do with them.
In reply to a_florida_man :
I understand what you and Tom are suggesting here but the two strikes and you're out is probably giving more leeway than necessary. When Frenchyd was on point, his posts were a useful addition to the dialogue here. When he was spouting terrifically inaccurate information then he was becoming a net negative. How is someone not knowledgeable about the nuance here going to be able to parse out what's real and what's not? When his anger at those who disagreed with him spilled over he went beyond a net negative and that's why he's gone and should stay that way. IMHO, of course...

There is a copy of that on my bookshelf right next to Patrick O' Connor's Black Tiger series and Henry Gregor Felson's Hot Rod and others. I read them as a kid and kept some of them. I found and re-read some later. I have some good memories of reading these the first time around.

If you can do that, you've reached a level of maturity and sophistication that will make you a fulfilled and content person.
I sent Frenchy an SU carb for cost of shipping and would do it again.
I'd really like to meet him in person and just talk about whatever. I think his personal weirdness doesn't translate well to an internet forum.

You should add Fast Green Car by W.E. Butterworth to your library. It came out in 1965. I read it in the library in elementary school, it was part of my formative interest in sporty cars (the school library also had the Felson series of books which I read multiple times.)

You're probably right. We have a guy like that at work. Great guy. Laid back but works hard. Always has nice things to say. But when it comes to email he comes across as a malcontent who goes out of his way to throw people under the bus.
