I get all excited to do this PDX. First driving event in almost two years. Even more stoked after attending the Rolex and 12 hours of Sebring. Get my car prepped with some proper racing rubber, a luxurious new helmet, some spare brake rotors, carbotech pads, big rear sway bar, etc. I had a blast as always but now...well...don't care if I miss the next one. Maybe it was the car or 14 hours of driving round trip to do it (got to see family and friends so it was a dual purpose trip) or maybe the car.

The 9th Gen Civic Si just seemed so blah. It was precise, did what I wanted it to do with lots of forgiveness, Honda reliability, etc. Still last time I did a PDX I couldn't wait to get more time in the seat but I didn't have the funds at the time. Now the funds are here and I'm just like do I want to waste another weekend away from Key West to sweat my ass off at Sebring?

Sounds like you need to apply some rwd to your condition...

+1, and the most terrifying, loud, sideways one you can find. A gen 1 viper with a bad alignment and studded snow tires!

That will keep you engaged or straight-up murder your ass.

Rallycross would be awesome; however, South Florida hasn't caught on despite there being plenty of space for it. Hell even CFR SCCA has had a tough time with it.

RWD is most likely the answer. I miss it a lot. I just love this Civic as a DD but dual purpose the 9th gen Si just isn't that fun as a racer :(. Lost lots of its raw driving fun that came with the 8th gen chassis.

You're in Key West? Well, there's you're problem. I probably wouldn't want to leave KW to drive a car in circles either...

What the hell is a PDX? And get off my lawn...

If you didn't have fun at Sebring (I was there last weekend) you got the wrong car. I had an absolute blast. My car was a joy to drive, I got a nice shady pit stall and I had friends to enjoy it with. I drove my track car there and back and the only issue was a sunburn on my arm.

As soon as I get my fuel starvation issue sorted, I will be the happiest driver on the track!

HPDE is a NASA acronym … PDX is a SCCA acronym

If you want to have sideways fun with your car.

Just charge into a corner at high speed then late brake.

I did a track day last weekend. This after a season of w/w ice racing. Meh. I had fun, it was good practice and all that, but less fun than I remember track days. And way less fun than ice racing.

I'm not so sure about the FWD/RWD thing. Different dynamic to be sure. And a big power engine is way fun. But in the end it's about getting around the track as fast as you and the car can. Without the w/w action, I'm not sure it would be much more exciting once you got used to it.

PDX is Portland International Airport, I was wondering why the heck you were at sebring and not PIR.

I drove 8 hours round trip in a car with a cage, FWD, and stiffer suspension than seems possible to my last HPDE and I can't wait till the next one. Guess you're doing it wrong?

THIS! I was more sideways in my civic (and braking waaaaayyyy later) than all of the RWD guys on track with me. Plus it's a game ... "How late can I brake and stay on the track?!" Not sure if it was faster, but it sure was fun.

The PDX was at the Daytona school course and not Sebring. It's what the SCCA calls their track day for street cars as opposed to HPDE. Just another acronym to throw out there. That's besides the fact.

Yes, Key West is great for the most part but it does have it's downsides. Tourists, tourists, high cost of living, lack of automotive events, and that's about it. You really don't see that many bikinis either down here. If you do it's usually a whale visiting from Minnesota with the skin tone of elmer's glue.

Sebring is a shorter and easier drive for track events. I think the issue maybe the lack of competition involved in a track day/pdx/hpde. I suppose it's like masturbation, it get's the job done, but still not the real thing. I might start exploring the race car option again. I'll know where I'm living at the end of the fiscal year in a few weeks and could start planning from there.

In reply to DirtyBird222:

Yeah that was a badly executed joke in regards to PDX. Do they have transponders at the track? Racing your own time can be fun. If not, they have apps + external Bluetooth GPS to do the timing.

Does Homestead have any events? I imagine that driving through the Keys feels like driving through the panhandle; it only feels like progress once you enter the main part of the state.

keep in mind that most track day organizations don't allow timing … (their ins. actually is who doesn't allow timing) … so a transponder would be out … you can get away with in car timing if you don't bring attention to yourself about it …

I mean NASA is even sponsored in part by Trackmate™ … so you can at least use the data to see how you're doing … but if you start yapping about how quick you are … what your lap times are … they will have something to say to you … the worst would be, you would be asked to leave …

the ins. thing makes them have to be serious about this
