That’s not a liquid cooled Duc.  Unless you count the oil.  So I’m thinking a Busa could work better (sound less amazing by a good bunch though) and have the rad mounted in the airflow.  Plus 1340 cc makes all the torques.

Best suggestion for the Joyner Duc is to put the seat back on the bike. Who wants to ride back there? It's like a personality test.

Isn't this exactly what a VW-based dune buggy is? There are at least five on CL between here and Denver right now. FB marketplace has a bunch more. Including a Joyner with a Ducati Monster in the back. Like they just took off the front wheel. It's amazing.

And if the Paco kit can make a $2000 Miata do what a $20,000 RZR can do for less than half the price, it sure sounds GRM to me. Since when did GRM start meaning "I don't want to pay the guy with the one man shop working out of his garage for the results of his work?"

Most of the VW based buggies I have been looking at use the torsion bar front suspension which I really want to have something with more travel.  It does seem that the price of the VW sand rails have fallen with the advent of the SxS.  The Paco setup is really cool and I like what they are doing.  It just flat doesn't fit into my budget to get a $2,000 Miata, $5,500 Paco kit, and then wheels, tires, and I am sure a few other things getting it up to $9-10,000 all-in.   So, what's a step or two  below Grass Roots?  That's what I am looking for.

The most GRM solution to your problem is to bust out the welder and make your own long arm suspension for a sand rail. It'll be a lot cheaper than the Paco kit, but you trade hours for that money.

There's a lot of knowledge on how to make those torsion bar setups work. Heck, they still use them on some of the race trucks IIRC.

I think the Joyner buggies also hit the VW-based market pretty hard as well. They're closer to what I'd look for than a SxS.

Kei truck?

Too bad these are so underpowered - there's a couple of Subarus close to me for sale. Big tires and a lift would make this look just like a 2/3 scale Unimog.

My first thought was a VW based sand rail. It seems you can find rolling chassis for less then a grand so easily.

From the build threads. I believe this is the correct answer

Oh thanks :D

As much as I love tooting my own horn, I came here to say Suzuki Sidekick/Vitara or Geo Tracker as well. Huge aftermarket and cheap parts like low range gearsets and lockers, and they're even light enough to run aggressive UTV tires. And cheap and street legal. Just cut off sheetmetal and add roll cage and tubework until you get the right off-road flavor.

This idea has crossed my mind.
