If you could buy any 10 cars, with the only requirement being that they have to be cars you would like driving, what would you buy? Also, if you would modify them, what would you do to them? My list would be:
-
Fiat 128 wagon. Repainted the lime green color that they were avaiable in when they were new, with konis, 13x6 wheels, swapped in 1500 from an x1/9 with 2 40 dcoe webers, and otherwise pretty much stock.
-
Fiat Abarth 1300 OT or 1000 OT (the 850 based rear engine ones) preferably a coupe or berlina.
-
1975 plymouth arrow, with a sublime green AAR cuda paint job (with the flat black hood and stripes down the sides), non turbo dohc mitsubishi engine ( I think it is the 4g64?), manual transmission, adjustable coilover conversion in the front with bilstien strut inserts, bigger brakes ( I think starquest brakes will fit) and stiffer/lower rear springs with good shocks and a panhard bar added, and 14'' minilites with azenis. Interior would be stock except for some better seats.
-
1986 Omni GLHS, would look completly stock, but converted to 89 Turbo II electronics, common block 2.5 with an 85 G head and a roller cam, and the updated starter, power steering pump and alternator, and the 89 TII turbo. A555 transmission with a quaife, stock shifter linkage converted to heim joints. Everything else stock, with the latest sticky bridgestone ST tires.
-
Neon ACR, prepped as an FSP autocross car with ac delete, magnum engine swap, 3.85 transmission with a quaife, either 13x7 wheels, or 15s with the big 275 hoosiers, and all the other appropriate modifications. Of course it would be painted NYG.
-
Alfetta GTV with Bilstiens, 27mm torsion bars, stiffer rear springs, poly bushings and spherical bearings in the suspension, big swaybars, 16x7 wheels, and the engine from a 90s spider with the bosch motronic efi.
-
Alfa Guilia SS, restored to stock except with a 2 liter, upgraded brakes, stiffer springs, Bilstien shocks, and more modern tires.
Alternate number 7. A Lancia Fulvia Zagato like the orange one on bringatralier.com
-
Early Bronco, restored to 100% stock, except with a 400hp fuel injected 347 small block.
-
Chrysler town & country wagon turbo (the one with the fake wood paneling). Front subframe, steering rack, complete 11'' brake system, and rear axle beam from a 89 shelby z. Custom tubular panhard bar, adjustable perches with 5'' race springs and bilstien shocks in the back. Custom Bilstien coilovers in the front, and a 1 1/4 inch swaybar. Stock front bucket seats and floor shift steering column in the matching interior color from another k platform car (probably red), with an 84 daytona sport steering wheel. Manual transmission swap with a stock floor console, and an A568 transmission with a quaife. Built 2.5 common block with 89 electronics, forged pistons, T3/T4 hybrid turbo, etc. Stock steel wheels widened to 7.5 inches with hankook 225/45-15 tires.
So this is a "realistically what I could buy car list" then?
I just want my E30 to be done.
I'm taking donations, help the cause.
1970 Datsun 240Z
1972 Datsun 510 modified as usual
1967-1/2 Datsun 2000 Roadster
Subaru WRX Sti or Mitusbishi Evolution
Ummmm...let me see....
1.) Replace my aging Elantra with a new Elantra touring for the wife.
2.) Throw away the wife's Accent and buy me a 2.0T Genesis coupe
3.) put some more cashola into the Swift to make it what it SHOULD be
4.) Put some money into our crew cab to make it what it SHOULD be.
5.) 1987-90 Caprice 9C1 gutted, caged, 4.8L vortec, TKO-500 trans built for One-Lap
6.) 08 Z51 Coupe 6-spd white. For giggles.
7.) 1992 Mustang Notchback, 302 5-spd with lots of goodies...
8.) TBA
9.) TBA
10.) TBA
hmm I'm afraid most of my dream car list comes from outside of the US so i'll try to pepper in some american muscle where i can.
in no particular order:
-
Toyota MR-S (3rd gen MR2) with hard top, GT300 bodykit, with a bulletproof 2ZZ-GE swap, rotrex supercharger and dry sump oiling.

-
Ariel Atom with Hayabusa V8
-

Mazda RX7 (last gen) with an LS7 transplant (if it can fit)
-
Ford Focus RS (current gen) king of the fast hatchbacks!
-
Ford Mustang GT (current gen)
-
Nissan 370Z (will settle for a used 350Z with built engine and displacement increase)
-
Nissan GT-R (I can dream can't I?)

2006 Subaru Imprezza STI (loved the three part grill design) with front mount intercooler, non-vented hood, low profile wing, upgraded turbo, painted black with gold rims thanks.

- Ferrari F-40: Call me a heretic... but an Enzo powerplant swapped in and touted up some, white with dual-horizontal red stripes (like a missile) and the black taillight surround/engine vent chromed.
This is a wish list, right?

As usual, my wish list varies depending on my mood. Right now, I'm in a "tired-of-constantly-wrenching-on-cars-KISS" mood... I have too much crap...
1.) My existing TDI wagon... maybe with a few mods and a hitch for a cargo trailer.
2.) a R56 MCS, set up for GS auto-x
3.) my 1800ES... completed and running resto-mod custom.

#1 is disturbingly close to reality right now. There's a 68 Javelin 290/4-Speed that I can afford for sale close by and that's close enough to what I want... Plus it has a bad interior, needs paint and suspension work.
You just need to buy that. ....seriously. I've never owned an AMC, but they are looking real attractive these days. They just don't come up that often in my kneck of the woods.
1: $25,940 Hyundai Genesis Coupe
2: Low Mileage 1992 Toyota MR2 NA hardtop
3: 2004 GMC Jimmy 4WD chassis with AWD drivtrain, 3.73:1 gears, Set up like a 4dr Typhoon with 17x9 and 17x11 wheels struggling to keep grip from the torque of the single turbo 6.0L LS engine.
Short list I know.
Just one now:
1) 93-97 Impreza. Insert rotary. Go rallycross 4WD rotary
1) Crusty 88-89 Celica AllTrac w/ good motor. Boost controller, hack off exhaust, gut completely, DMS rally suspension, and full rally vinyls. Go hoon around in the woods.
2) Toyota Cressida. Any year. I have a strange itching desire to make a VIP style car.
3) Lotus Esprit. Preferably V8 and turbo.
4) Porsche 928GTS. Bolt ons, strip it, bigger fenders for major meaty tires.
5) AE92 Corolla GTS. Insert Blacktop w/ 6speed, some nasty cams, and a good suspension with nice street tires.
6) 2nd gen CRX Si with a "G23 Vtec" setup. Google it up, you'll understand why
7) 4th gen celica (86-89). Insert 2grfe 3.5 litre quad cam v6 toyota motor built for insane amounts of nitrous. Attempt to stay on road.
8) E36 M3. bolt ons and suspension only.
9) FC RX7 Turbo II. Needs more 3-rotor.
10) FB RX7. Quad rotor fabricated from 2 wankels. Preferably 12a.

My uncle flew to California and bought one on his honeymoon and drove back with my Aunt. The two split up years ago and I run into my ex-uncle at Road America once in a while.
Question to my Aunt at my mother's funeral 3 years ago : "Uncle Bud still have the Shelby Mustang? Yep"
So I call him out of the blue a year ago and talk cars and ask him about his '65 Shelby Mustang. Yes, it is sitting in the garage and rarely driven.
I ask about all the cars he owned ('59 Corvette, '62 Sprite, '58 Oldsmobile with special ordered manual trans, and no it was NOT a Lotus Cortina; basic Cortina, I also passed on bringing up the first year Vega he bought)
His statement to me was "I had a 1963 Chevrolet Impala 409 convertible; that is the car I SHOULD have kept.
