ok, my old truck, has been sitting for quite a while. I probably have a good use for a truck once every 2-3 years, and a need for a truck that can be taken care of by our minivan about 4 times a year. I don't anticipate the need for a tow vehicle anytime soon.

Annual registration about $130, annual insurance about $160 (minimal insurance, multiple cars, discounts discounts discounts).

84, single cab, long bed, 6.9 IDI non-turbo diesel, 4 spd manual, 4x4. Rear axle is supposedly spec'd as a 1 ton axle (non-dually). Very little rust, lots of miles. Does not drive right now, in need of a clutch job. (broken/stuck pressure plate springs make me not even want to start the darn thing). factory air inop, but factory cruise still works.

So, what to do?

  1. fix the clutch, keep it around in the driveway. Let it sit more.
  2. fix the clutch, sell the truck.
  3. sell the truck as is. or part it out?
  4. motor swap? newer diesel or gas running gear from a newer truck?

One thing I have going for me is this is a rust free 30 yo truck in the midwest. it really stands out because of that.

If you're using it that little, I would either sell as-is or fix the clutch and then sell it.

Unless a vehicle has sentimental value, my guideline is that I should consider selling it if I don't use it at least once a month.

I had the same truck and the same conundrum. I ended up selling it for $800 to a guy for a father son project. Haven't really missed it.
