I see 10 Lamborghinis for every R8 on the road. You just don't see many of the Audi's. I think they stick out more because of that.

I disagree. The 300GT VR4 is unassuming at best and definitely not what I'd describe as beautiful by a long stretch. In 94 my Dad was in the market for a new car, he was looking at the FD, Mk4 Supra turbo or a 3000 GT VR4. I told him to get the Supra first, FD second, 3000 last. So of course he buys the 3000. What a pile that thing was.
Ferraris have Ferrari maintenance and $$$ upkeep. The 348/355 in particular aren't the easiest ones to wrench on
Another vote against the NSX. It's not about the price-they're just not fast enough for what you're looking for.
When I was shopping that price range, it came down to viper, c7, and ctsv.
None of the above won. I'm now counting the years until I can have a Toyota crown Athlete V estate.
Z32 300ZX DID come in a convertible and they're the same overbuilt, super-engineered Japanese bubble economy cars that the Supra and NSX are. They're more robust and quality than most of the garbage in this thread, in fact. Nissan in the 1990s was competing with Toyota/Honda in terms of build quality and reliability. In period magazine tests they usually won or placed higher than their competitors. The 3000GT is the worst of the 90s Japanese super sports cars. Still an awesome car, and one that I would happily own, but the competition was just that good!
I’ve always thought the 300ZX was better looking than the NSX or Supra. That red convertible makes me feel tingly inside.

That thing is terribly slow for a Viper owner.

I think the only thing that meets your criteria is a viper. An 03+ convertible still screams viper when I see one and its in your price range with more modern amenities.
I still get excited when I see a random viper even after having one.
Yeah the more I come back to it, no one has out-vipered the viper. Something I-Talian would be fun, but thats for the future.
Still think you should test drive a F Type R in convertible. Literally checks all your "what I want boxes" and lawd is it gorgeous with a gorgeous exhaust note.
The Gen 1 Vipers looked cool, but many found them short of comfort (top, windows etc.) and they were pretty anaemic in terms of output (frankly pathetic if viewed as BHP per liter or BHP per weight), but then the numbers and performance looked much better back in the 90s.
I'd either keep the car for use on sunny days or upgrade to a later version that has better creature comforts, but by the time you get to non-removable windows, the look has changed maybe more than you'd like.
A first gen NSX with an added turbo would be pretty cool, but also expensive - I should have bought one back when they reached lowest resale value too!
I've never been in a Viper let alone drive one. They look cool and the early ones offer raw open top fun. I like that. I went with that approach when I built my Cheetah Tribute. At 1912lbs with fluids and an all iron SBC my car handles great and is plenty fast. I drive it as often as I can.
I would keep the viper. Good luck with your search!
