What happened to our car vs. car threads?

The board Gods got tired of them and made them go away.

Probably a subtle hint backed up by a large hammer.

In reply to nicksta43:

They were the best threads on this board. How many "Learn Me" or "What car can I buy for $1000 that can autocross, take the kids to soccer, gets 50 MPG and can pop corn" threads to we need?

Ok here is one:

Threads that actually provoke thought and rekindle passions of cool Grassroots cars versus threads which are flat out boring.

Give it a week or two. The sheer volume of "Vs" threads was rather disagreeable to a number of people.

Man I am getting tired of LS1 threads, Miata threads, this kind of racing is better than that kind of racing threads. The versus threads were provocative and entertaining. Quite frankly, I could do without any track day car threads. The fun of this hobby isn't having the car du jour for a given activity. It is (in my very humble opinion) excelling at something in the car you love. If you do well in a car that is not "the car" to have, it is much more fun.

So are the LS1 swap threads. So are the Megasquirt threads. So what. I just skip the ones I don't like.

I'm not disagreeing with you. David said, "a while." So wait a bit and proceed as you see fit.

People have been restless on the board. Things need to chill out for a bit. It is what it is.

so a large portion of the forum population participated in discussions, about cars that in no way offended anyone, attack political, religious or sexual orientations and they get removed.

That makes perfect sense on a car forum

While were at misguided attempts at censorship.

Crap like this is allowed on here and a females dairy aire not completely covered is forbidden, on a thread that was listed as a protest to hotlinking, that has been hotlinked to for 2 years!!!

Yes, yes this all seems completely logical.

I noticed that a lot more recently.

I stopped doing the vs threads because I think they were getting a little old but I enjoyed participating.

I read the mag however never joined the board until recently because of a car vs car post. I personally think its a great way to learn about certain cars..If open to it of course. Anyway I'm not much into Miatas and such..Or ls1's:O)..But Ill lurk around anyway to see if anything interesting pops up

I liked the "VS" threads, but I have to admit it was getting a bit out of hand. Almost the entire first page of the GRM section of the forum was littered with them.

It would have been fine if stuck to one a day like it started out, but it seemed like everyone wanted to do one.

The VS threads were downright insulting to the intelligence of the group. They lowered the group IQ by numerous points.

If they had been honest questions, like the Learn Me threads instead of contrived marriages they would have served a purpose.

At first I thought it was a car forum's version of cabin fever since it was cold and people couldn't actually DO much, and possibly the first couple were, but they quickly grew out of control and became "trendy" and lost all relevance.

They were fun until it reached "Citation." Then it just seemed like simple pandering.

but asking about a Fiero- the back half of which is a Citation- is not only cool, but seems to be actively encouraged sometimes..

I have started a Vs thread where you can discuss all of your Versus needs. Please use that thread and that thread only for the random mash-up of automotive oddities.

And the dissemination of all that is GRM begins.

We just moderated a car discussion based on opinions to one thread.

No, if you're going to discuss car needs for a specific purpose, you can start a thread on your own. However, random pairings of cars for a theoretical/abstract argument gets old very fast.

I was trying to keep it between similar cars or cars which could have simialr uses (Maverick vs. Mustang II, Supra vs. 280ZX, etc.) Most of the vs. threads were along similar line. Now if we were discussing early 70s Impala Wagons versus early 70s Fury Wagons, that might be too much.
