Not to threadjack, but it's amazing when you think about how much they changed from C4 to C5.  It's as big of a difference between the C3 and C4.  I'm still amazed that they decided to keep the transverse leaf springs up through the C6.  They changed everything else but kept that..

The C4 was basically a C3 with more aluminum, a little better geometry, and brakes not designed in 1963, when you look at it topographically.   The C5 basically only kept the leaf springs.

Good riddance to using the axles as suspension members.  You can have a too high roll center or a bad camber curve or both.

It has definitely been done.

Kind of.

The Painless kit engages the instant you hit 4th. There are other ones that do it with installing a simple pressure switch into the case (on later 4L60/700R4s like I have) that closes with pressure and engages the OE TCC solenoid, then the brake switch opens the circuit when it's applied. Adding a vacuum switch enables part throttle deactivation allowing 4th gear "up hill/light load" and lock up steady state.

It may still be the easiest route. I have a spare relay set in my swap fuse box that I can pull the brake wire, 4th gear pressure switch and vacuum switch to if all else fails.

I still think that there can be a digital control done cheaply that encompasses all of those inputs plus throttle signal to really dial it in.

Personally, the C4 is better looking than the C5. I'd love an "LS" swapped one with a t56.

C2, C6, C4, C8, C1, C7, C5, C3.
