I can trim 100+ grams off my piston weight.

What is this worth on a 4 banger?

With current scrap prices, probably about $0.08.

Each piston or from all four.  Realistically no gain unless combined with other mods that let you spin it faster and breath better.  Then it becomes important where you take the metal off as you can compromise strength

Each piston, the dang pin by itself weighs 145 grams!

One of the pins out of a 351 Ford forging weighs 75 grams.

A Wiseco forging weighs 458 grams vs the 721 gram piston (loaded) I took out of the motor.

Plus the Wiseco is a slipper piston instead of a fully skirted slug.

That much of a change probably needs a complete rebalancing.

In reply to Streetwiseguy :

Not on a four.  You can't even really "balance" a four like you can a V8 because the imbalance is all in the same plane.  You balance the pistons, rods, and crank separately.

From what I have gleaned, most production engines don't quite have enough counterweight, so a lighter reciprocating assembly would be most beneficial.
