4th gens are better sports cars than people think, especially with a decent set of shocks, one of the car mags tested a WS6 and it was faster through the slalom than a E36 M3.

Throw a little bit of suspension at them and they can handle quite well.

I absolutely loved mine, and will have another.

My vote is the cleanest 4th gen fbody you can find.

Very clean 4th gen WS6es are selling in the low-mid teens. The collector market has definitely picked up on them and a lot of them were lost to dumb kids or raced to death, so unlike a lot of 90's performance cars, half of them aren't still in the wrapper.

Best value these days on a 4th gen is to just buy a clean Z28 and then use the aftermarket to take care of the rest. Clean SSes and WS6es are overpriced.

Aren't all of those G35s going to need a timing chain by now? IS300s are more like $7k and have a salvage title too, I can't quite see paying that much.

In reply to drdisque:

I wasnt saying buy a WS6 thats just what was tested, and wanted to give the full picture. It was an SLP car, about the only difference between it and a base model Z28 mechanically, are bilsteins, springs, 275s, and a few hp because of the intake and exhaust.

Non SLP WS6/SS cars are really just cosmetic upgrades

Id look for a 2000 and later Z28, so you get the LS6 intake and plastic gas tank, but I wouldnt hesitate for a cleaner earlier car at a better price, alot of the cheap 4th gens have been beat and are rattle traps, so look for a well cared for example.

You ask about sports cars and then rel off a litany of sedans without a sports car in the bunch (unless I missed one). Guess definitions have changed.

What are you going to use it for?

In reply to wspohn:You missed the quotes on "sports" car in the title. Most people do need a back seat for a DD.

Except for the part where i live in the same area as the OP and have looked recently and even know a guy who just bought one a month ago that was one of the more expensive ones available at 6k.. Plenty around 5k.

Damn this thread. It's got me considering selling my Corvette in favor of a 4th Gen F-body or BMW in the under $10k range for less winter time driving guilt.
