I don't like these stripes. What's the easiest way to remove them? I've got an HF heat gun, but I worry about it being too hot on the paint.....what else?No photo description available.

If they're vinyl, then they're much easier to remove when they're warm.  IME a heat gun isn't going to hurt the paint as long as you're careful -- you don't want the vinyl to be HOT (if for no other reason than you'll burn your fingers trying to pull it off), you just want it warm.  Think the temperature you'd get with the car sitting out in the sun in July.  Don't leave the heat gun pointing one spot for long, move it around and check the temperature.

If you really don't want to use the heat gun, then you can just fall back on parking it outside in the sun in July. :)

You could also use a hair dryer instead of a heat gun.

Either heat gun or decal eraser wheel followed by adhesive remove to get the leftover residue.

Start with the heat gun and try to pull them. If they are too brittle then move to step 2.

Then move to this from 3M.

A 90 degree day and park the car in a blacktop parking lot until about 2:00 pm.

That how I stripped the full wrap off a previous company car, Ford Escape, in about 40 minutes.

To get rid of these vinyl stripes (about 25 years old), I had to go to the eraser. It worked pretty well but you have to make sure to keep it moving. The eraser was 3M part 07498 Stripe Off Wheel.

Photo of attempts with a scraper and heat.

Note: not factory paint.

I will add that my secret weapon is rubber cement thinner for removing adhesive residue.

It works better than most "goo b gone" products and leaves no greasy residue.  It should not harm the paint at all.  On plastics do a test spot, though it is generally harmless to most soft plastics.

A small ceramic heater works well !

It took less than an hour and looks much better. Still needs a wipe down with some solvent and then a buff.

Too late for you, but the best way I have found is a steam gun.

I have one similar to This

Steam and use a plastic razor and you really cant hurt the paint.

In reply to Apexcarver :

We had/have one of those things someplace. Never thought about using steam. Good idea for next time.
