At this point, I think my Quantum has eclipsed my Impulse as far as money thrown down the drain. The Impulse just plain sucked. The Quantum, however, is on its fourth engine that I've bought for it, as well as having changed direction twice on fuel and ignition. I even bought a complete car for it so that I'm not putting this vast drivetrain expenditure into a rusty worn out shell.
So, when I'm done, the only thing that will be left of the car I started with in 2009 will be the license plates.
too embarrassed to admit how much I paid a guy to put a 3.0 liter Taurus engine into my SVT Contour after I blew up the original engine...
Least 79 Ford Granada, $75. Most, well I've bought 3 new truck none of them cheap, still easier to digest than the 15k I sank into a Z32TT that still makes me cringe.

I've put good bit into my Escort. Mostly because I had a shop do the clutch and I gave it new sets of winter and summer tires. Worth it to keep a non rusty car on the road in Michigan.
I wouldn't be surprised over the past 10 years I've owned my rx7 I am close to 20k in it.
least was the 84 marquis I paid 100 dollars for. tune up and rims and tires I had laying around. drove it for 2 years.
Most was my turbo 2.3 mustang swap. I somehow turned a 500 dollar foxbody and 150 dollar donor car into a 7k project. drove the car twice and sold it for a huge loss!

The Bugeye in my Avatar had $17,700 worth of parts and materials into it when I added up the invoices.
So, the moral of the story is to never add up project invoices. Burn that 糞 immediately or else you will start to question your sanity.
I bought a Duster winter beater in 1982 for $35. I drove it until the end of Feb. when the rusty torsion bar mount gave up. I never opened the hood the whole time I owned it. The junk yard came and picked it up and I left with $150 in my pocket. Best car ever.
