By next season I should have my suspension sorted on the foxbody, at which point I'm planning to go from my current 17x8s with 245/45 Star Specs to my 17x9s. However, Dunlop doesn't make the Star Specs any wider than 265s (at least in a 17), so I'm kinda lost as to what's going to be the fast tire for a 3300+ lb pig of a car. Would I be better off sticking with star specs and only getting another 20mm, or going to something like the R1R in a 275, or even wider and something else?
For what it's worth, I'm under no class restrictions in terms of size, just the typical 130(140?) treadwear cutoff.

well, considering I have 245/45 specs on my 17x8's currently, do the toyo's run just as wide?
I only mention this, because the 245/45 star specs were 3/4" wider than the 245/45 v700 victoracers they replaced. ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/wink-18.png)
I would bet the R1Rs would be faster in a 275 than the Specs in a 265.
That said, i'd rather run Specs on the street, mostly due to longevity.
My vote is either the Specs or the Kumho XS in 275/40-17.
XS is likely what I'll run, but in the staggered 275/315 setup on the vette next year.
Guy in my club went from 275 XSs to 265 Star Specs and swears up and down the Star Specs are noticably grippier.
