I found this odd pair of wheels at my wife's uncle's house today. He has them mounted on a trailer. I thought they looked cool & bent down to take a closer look - all the spoked area of the wheels(everything except the silver lip)is foam rubber!?!?! They aren't wheel covers either, as the foam is molded around the cast center part of the wheel. Anyone seen anything like these? The design looks vaguely familiar, but I'm not sure what these are!
EDIT: What's up with posting pics on here now? I linked to the URL, but it didn't show?
Stupid imageshack....
As to the wheels, bizarre is all I can say....
Those are Mustang rims
my 1992 LX convertible has them.
I thought they looked like Mustang wheels...
Molded rubber applied to wheels is nothing new, Pontiac did it with the honeycomb wheels used on Trans Ams in the middle 1970s.
Thanks! I was thinking late-80's/early-90's vintage, but I was leaning toward Mopar instead of Ford. Good to know!
I had no idea the 70's T/A wheels were made that way. I'd always presumed they were cast metal.

I think 1987 four cylinder Mustangs were the first to use those wheels.

Wow. Just by looking at a picture of a fairly obscure rim (at least today), and we have an answer in just 3 hours.

I have a set of those off a 93 LX with decent tires if anyone is interested. I'm in Columbus, Ohio area. No shipping, they're heavy.

Actually, they were available on '83-'84 Cougars and '85-'93 Mustangs.
1G DSMs used those Polycast wheels also.
