M278 are super detuned so they tend to be reliable. They're tightly packed though.

Sounds like you need a quick road trip to pick up this beauty...

I am definitely interested.  Any chance at all there are photos of the car when it was damaged?  Curious to see how bad it was.  I also need to talk with a challenge teammate about a few things with one of his cars.

If eastsideTim passes on this one,  I'd be very interested in it as a family runabout.

Sorry for the thread jack,  carry on...

I'm not a mercedes expert but I am listening as I will be doing the sand hills open road rally next august and looking for a ride for that one.

What are you looking into right now?  So far my list is:

Mercedes E, C, CLK, S class

 Cadillac CTS-V

S197 Mustang

Dodge Challenger/Charger

Acura CL/TL 3.2 w/manual transmission

Lexus IS/GS/LS

Infiniti G35/37 and Nissan 350Z/370Z

and at the extreme bottom, Crown Victorias and SN95 Mustangs.  I figure they can handle the speeds just fine, but the platforms are dated enough, I'm not sure I want to risk a high speed accident in one.

Oh yeah, I'd really like a C6, but would need to finance part of the purchase, and don't want to do that.

Edit: final option is my wife's Mk7 GTI, but that is dependent on her getting a new daily driver before then, so I don't want to rely on this choice.

My co-pilot loves corvettes and MR2s. Got to admit, I've been reading JG's progress with both platforms.

I have a fox body in the garage but same problem as the sn95, needs a ton of suspension work.

Odd ball choice has been a Stagea RS-4 and Audi S4.

Once I close on the new house, I'll lock in on something and have the winter to build it up.

I always thought this was a "Tim" kind of car. I'll keep you in the loop.

I'll have look at Sand Hills sometime.  For Silver State, handling should not be an issue.  Based on some video of a C7 ZR1 going through it (with a g meter on the display), a Mack truck could handle the curves in the lower speed classes.  Just need to make sure the car can run that fast for 90 miles without getting unhappy.

How about a long wheelbase for high speed stability?

Don't you have an extra 6.0 and turbo setup?

Interesting. I'm not surprised though. Big Bend isn't highly technical either.

I'll have to watch the SSC videos. Sand Hills is in my back yard. Only a 4 hour drive so I can do a test run and see.

laugh

The major reason I am moving an open road race to my 2023 plan, is that I realized I am way too slow at building stuff.  I was originally going to go for Drag Week next year.  Having an extra year to prep should help for that.
