Said I wasn't gonna track the F0RS. I fkn LOVE tracking the F0RS!
I've run it at AMP several times now on Michelin PS4S tires. Only problem is, these are also my DD tires and I'm chewing them up.
Looking for a common size hoosier in the hopes I can find some USED. (Doesn't someone on the board sell used hoosiers?)
Any advice on size/compound would help. A7? R25/35? Keep in mind this will be 10-15 laps max per session at AMP.
255/35-40? I currently have 245's on the volks in question. No idea why. I think I just matched the tires that were on there.
Any reason you want to go HoHos vs super-200tw or even the 100tw cheapies?
For hoosiers all I know is that for a car of that weight, you'd want to go for the "less" sticky compounds. I've heard of 1500lb cars using a7 on road courses, but I think you'd over heat those fast on the F0RS!
I need to get back down to AMP soon, it's a really Exocet friendly track with less giant straights.
^What he said.
RS-4, R888R, Toyo R1, etc. Unless you're trying to win HPDE I don't see the point of messing with the purple crack.
It might be "false economy" to buy take offs if you have to pay someone to swap your tires. An RS-4 should last a good amount of time, and be useful for days when you don't swap back to your dailies.

Because you can buy 18" A7 takeoffs for like $100 each. That is, assuming their recent limitation on contingency tires doesn't cut down on the size of the used market. 255/35/18 seems to be the new hotness, just be aware that it's really a 275 width tire and make sure it'll fit. 245s (actually 265s) are not nearly as popular and generally super hard to come across on the used market.

Well, if you wanna get hohos and have the budget - they're fun! Life's short, you do you.
f you're interested in other options: Nankang AR-1's aren't hoho sticky, but they're also fast for the price and last pretty well. They're what I'm sticking on the Exocet this season. For my beater, club-day Miata I've put on rs4s because they last forever and I lap hours at a time...
Phil from https://philstireservice.com/ has helped me when I randomly email him questions (or whoever answers his emails) so maybe check with him?
Call John and tell him you're looking for R7's in something like your size and he'll hook you up.

Expect to pay about 1/3rd of the price of new for take offs.

Can you get similar r7's ? Maybe someone with more experience with them on a car that size will chime in, but AMP isn't a huge track, but it's still WAY bigger than any autoX course and 10-15 laps pounding around it in a car of that size seems like you'd kill those a7's in short order.

Maybe, pretty much everyone is racing on As these days though. Fwiw I've seen some people report that A7s actually last better than the fast 200tws because they're actually a bit more heat tolerant. Not that something like an rs4 wouldn't last even longer, but they're not as bad as you'd think.
I run 245 A7s on the 1700lb with driver MG. They are fine for 20 minute sessions. They get hard and loose grip before they wear out. I'm not sure the results will be as favorable with 2x the weight on similar tire widths. I suspect you will have heat issues, which will induce more wear.
If you could get R7s or happen to run a size similar to what touring type cars run you may be able to use more endurance focused slicks.
A FoRS on Rcomps on a track sounds intoxicatingly fun though.

Make sure that the group(s) you run with will allow them. Some groups won't let you run them unless the car has a roll bar. You should also look into whether anyone has had oiling problems with the FORS due to running slicks on track. I know the GTIs/Golf Rs have problems running them.
Thanks for the replies!
A couple things of note:
I'm rarely on track with more than 3 other cars. It's more about chasing down a killer lap time. I had R888R's on the volks when I got the car but was not a fan.
Right now I'm running my DD PS4S on the track and annihilating them.
I plan on selling the stock forged 19's and grabbing a set of 18's that will be dedicated to either street or track.
Hell, I might give the Nangtangs a whirl and try the hoosiers when I wear them out. I think(?) there's another chinese company making a race tire? Hyatsu or some E36 M3?

JB racing tires has them cheap enough that you could try A7s, bring both sets of wheels with you, if the A7s aren't up to the task you can swap out wheels and still finish the day.
Just grab some NT01s. Last FOREVER. Stay Sticky. Not tempermental. Decent up front buy in.
Are a blast to slide around in and very smooth breakaway characteristics.
Hoosiers want less slip angle than 200 TW tires so you'll need to adjust your driving to compensate. You may also need more camber with them. If you're gentle with them you might get the A compound tires to hold up but the Rs are more appropriate for your intended usage.
John hooked a brutha up!!! Thanks yall! Gonna try the A7's and go from there. Says he's got some good ones from runoffs, FYI!

So yeah. A7's for the win. I was 3rd place raw behind a Radical SR10 and my brother in the $2k Challenge V last weekend. 1st place raw in auto-x.
I believe I'll continue smokin the purple crack!
They ran the "short course," so I'm anxious to see how many seconds I can drop on the full track...once the replacement rotors come in.

Nice! Did you get used or new?
Edit: oops, just read the above comment. I just ordered used Avon's for the Exocet I'm excited to try.
