This is purely internet conjecture. I have no need or desire for these cars but just thought this wierd.

Yesterday I passed a Toyota Paseo.. Convertible. A guy in My neighborhood has a Geo Metro convertible and there are 2 ford capri convertibles running around. It seemed in the early 90's eveyone offered some kind of Economy-convertible and actual "sports car" convertibles where fairly rare (except Miata obviously). Which one of these wonderful cars would be the best/worst?

I was just thinking about Paseos yesterday...I think I'd like to have one someday, but maybe not a convertible. I forgot they even came in convertible! Paseo or Metro seems like the best plan.

Dodge Shadow convertibles and VW Cabrios

I'd go with the mopar because of the turbos swaps and whatnot.

Fox Mustang as best and worst.

Note quite the same class, but E30 318. I would see 33MPG driving like a great grandma, 30 driving like a grandma. Driving like a normal person, high 20's would be normal. Seats 4 in relative comfort, and still fun to drive.

In reply to RossD:

True...turbo possibilities kinda put them in a league of their own.

The Paseo could get a 4EFTE swap, so there's hope for them too. Seems the underpinnings were used in a hot hatch in Japan or Europe that we didn't get.

Celica!

Dang! How do you get the picture to show up?

Thanks Ranger50! Simple when you're pointed in the right direction.

Celica or Eclipse Spyder (especially the GS-T).

Also 240SX convertible, though I think they only came in automatic??

I think the Celica and the Eclipse were the prettiest.

But if i were buying i'd probably end up with a Shadow or Metro, and in fact i have made passes at each before, just couldnt get the right deal.

I agree, I think the Spyder is still the best looking of that period, followed by the Celica. I would love a Spyder now, but all the ones around here tend to be pretty beaten.

This is the one I'd buy without even asking SWMBO first:

It's like a poor man's Ferrari Daytona:

The del sol is a pretty good car. I had a '93 Si that would routinely get 36 mpg and wasn't a bad drive.

The Celica is likely one of the better ones, though i kindof hate them after driving so many coupes.

Speed freaks need the Eclipse, then followed by the Capri XR2/Saab Turbo tied. Then Paseo. Not just the 4efte that Matt mentioned, but there's all kinds of bizarre hybrids you can put together with the "e" series motors that can make STUPID amounts of power. If you wanted a 400whp Paseo Convertible shudders you could do it.

Second-Gen RX-7- I definitely miss mine. Bonus points if you can find one with a well-done turbo swap...

This is what we're trying to find right now for my dad's upcoming 70th. Not as many on CL around these parts as I thought and those that are either don't respond to emails, or price theirs a bit opptimistically.

Is the Capri XR2 any better built than the regular Capri? If not, I think the Capri easily wins the honor of being the worst.

No not really. It just has a good turbo Mazda motor.

I don't really think that ANY of the cars mentioned in this thread feel "good" to drive.

But if i'm going to drive a floppy nutsack of a chassis, it better have enough power to make it feel like it's going to rip in half during a 4th gear pull.

These are my feelings toward my 1982 Lebaron Convertible. It needs about 3 times as much power as it has.
