I am 90% sure that my RX-7's intermittent fueling issue is due to a sticky regulator. It is a Holley unit that was purchased new a couple years ago. It looked far lower quality in build than the one I bought in 1999-ish.
Not really interested in a Holley unit anymore. I need to regulate down to 3psi or so for the stock carb, and later may finally install that DHLA that will require whatever those require.
The older Holley regs were what I used for Webers. Are the current ones of a poorer quality now?

Current ones are pretty sad, as is all holley quality at this point.
pete, i have a few older holley ones if you want one

Not to look a gift horse in the mouth or anything, but can those go down to sub-4psi? The Nikki 4 barrel likes between 2 and 3psi, you can feel a huge change in drivability the lower you make the pressure. It's low enough that pressure gauges are not terribly accurate, so I adjust by feel.
I had been considering Quick Fuel because I recall their carburetors being awesome, but some of them look like they came out of the same factory that the new Holley regulators came from.

Which one are you using? Holley has 2 low pressure regulators, 12-804 and 30-804QFT under the QFT brand.

What about Weber? Redline carries a few. No personal experience - my Webers are fed by a Carter rotary that runs at a very low PSI, so I've never needed a regulator.

We had good luck with Aeromotive units but they're spendy.

I use a RedLine fuel pump and FPR on my racecar running dual Weber DCO/SP carbs at 2-3 psi. No issues at all..

What pump are you using and what pressure are you trying to bring it down to?
I have a hard and fast rule in the shop that if a car comes in with a disc style adjustable regulator it is removed before we start anything

I tend to default to replacing the fuel pump with the correct pressure unit. Either the OE style SU pumps on British cars or a Facet cylindrical body pump in the 2.5-3 psi range.
